From: "Subaru Iceman" <race@...>:
Conditions for International Ice VI, scheduled for 10:00 AM, Saturday
March 8, 2003, are currently perfect! Four weeks of sub-zero
temperatures and moderate snowfall on Drummond Island have created
ice that is 35 to 40 inches thick with a very hard packed surface on
the "International Ice Bridge" between Drummond Island, Michigan and
St. Joseph Island, Ontario.
International Ice VI is a 22 mile adventure that starts at the
Drummond Island Yacht Haven and crosses the Ice Bridge to Canada and
back. The course profile is relatively flat with the major climb
(approximately 10 feet) occurring at Burnt Island on both the
outgoing and return trips. Over 50 hard-core cyclists are expected to
brave the unpredictable March conditions. Ice conditions can change
daily so both studded and regular tire combinations are recommended.
Full support of the race is provided by snowmobiles.
After the race, an awards dinner will be held at 6:00 in the Drummond
Island Township Hall benefiting the Drummond Island Elementary
Parents Association.
Drummond Island Resort and Conference Center is Race Headquarters.
They are offering special accommodation rates for riders as well as
special offerings at Pins and Bayside restaurants. For
accommodations, call Marilyn at 800/999-6343.
On-line registration is available at www.iceman.com through
Wednesday, March 5th.
Happy Miles!
