Whether we'll ever get the truth or not is yet to be seen. However,
as far as I am concerned, and not personally understanding how
steroids would help his bat speed in connecting, just as Sosa's name
is forever tarnished by the corked bat, Bonds is now tarnished too.
All his feats should carry the same asterisk that Maris endured,
until Bonds can prove conclusively that he has never taken steroids.
Just like Olympic athletes are tested, and lose gold medals if found
to have used drugs, MLB players should have their feats put to the
side and not have records recognized, if they used drugs too.

They put that rumor to rest pretty quick.
They're building up Reyes to be the next big thing... despite the
fact that Soriano is already a big thing. We'll see how he does this
year, and then comment on this possible trade in October.
although tempting, the mets want to stay with reyes youth.

I am a passionate baseball fan and luv the Amazins. I was born in NY
but grew up in Australia, and even though I have lived in the Philly
area since I came back to the States in 1988, I kept my allegiance to
my NY teams, Mets, Giants and to a lesser degree, the Knicks. I have
been living in Delaware since 1997 and try to get to see the mets as
often as possible when they come south on the turnpike to play those
Phillies, whom, we must admit, have assembled what looks like a darn
good team this year. Finally, and don't view this the wrong way guys,
I have just left corporate America and am attempting to become one of
the self employed in a baseball related business. I would appreciate
it if you kind folks would at least check out this link and spread
the word so that this Mets fan can roar to success. By the way, I
joined the fantasy league too, catch me if you can. Phil

Well who among us can be surprised that George Steinbrenner went out
and got Alex Rodriguez and the mets sat on their asses and did
nothing. This is what being a met fan is all about, its about being
nothing more than a second class citizen in town. We had every
oppurtunity to get alex rodriguez and never so much as made an effort.
There is one person and one person alone who should be blamed for this
and that person is..........FRED WILPON. Wilpon is a businessman, he
doesn't care about winning, all he cares abouts is the bottom line.
His whole goal is to make money through the exploitation of long
suffered met fans. Make no mistakes, the mets will NEVER win with fred
wilpon as their owner. Wilpon is all talk and no action, go back to
every rumor about a big name player we were supposed to get. Now why
didn't
we get the arods, vladir guerreros of the world? because wilpon has no
intention of spending any money to get superstar talent. As long as we
get in on the negotiations and come out short, Wilpon can just say
"Hey we tried and finished second, thats not bad" Well you know what??
You either get the player or you don't and Wilpon has signed NO major
free agent. Kaz Matsui is not gonna draw any buzz, its just a stop gap
to the bigger problem. If Fred Wilpon had his way Mike Piazza would
never have been a met, Nelson Doubleday was the one who pushed for the
deal. I would hope to say that the mets have reached a new low, but
sadly I believe we have more rock bottom to go before we become once
again the biggest laughingstocks in sports.
Is anyone out there as furious as I am about what is going on in
baseball today. The Red Sox and Yankees are destroying what is
supposed to be the greatest game on earth. Instead of this league
being a 30 team competiton it has turned into a 4-5 team competition,
while all the other teams serve as "minor league" teams to the bigger
ones. How are the Royals and Twins supposed to compete against teams
the likes of the Yankees and Red Sox that have been stockpiling some
of the games best talent this offseason. They can't! There is a
serious problem when agruably the best player in the game must be
traded in order to make a team better! A-Rod is supposed to be the
player a team builds around, not the player a teams gives up so they
can improve. And to think what they actually recieved for the best
player in the game. Alfonso Soriano, a young but very raw player who
looked lost at the plate during the playoffs, and a miserable
fielding secondbaseman. They also got a minor leaguer who will
probably amount to nothing at the major league level. All this for
the best player in the game!?! Thats pathetic. The reason the Yankees
were able to get a player of A-Rods caliber and give up basically
nothing is money. They are the only other team that could offord to
throw money away at another player. So now a main argument of Yankee
fans is "thats the business of the game, if we have the money why not
spend it?" This is all well and good, but why should other teams like
the Brewers and Royals, have to spend ridiculous amounts of money to
stay competitve? It just doesn't make sense. Baseball is about
competition on the field, not about making competing teams unable to
acquire any talent. This offseason is the worst in baseball history
because of the arms race between greedy Steinbrenner and the Red Sox.
It just shows that baseball needs major changes otherwise it will not
be able to survive. Our sport is dieing, something must be done.
Best Player yes. But best fit on a team full of monumentous egos? Let us not
forget that Arod and Jeter arent exactly fans of each other. Down the road I
think jealousy will rip this team apart at the threads. . Also lets take into
account that you add the best offensive player in baseball but you also subtract
a prettry damn important piece that brought great success to this team, namely
Alfonso Soriano. Last years this guy hit avg. 290 hr 38 rbi 91 r
114 sb 35
Arod stats last year Avg .298 hr 47 rbi 118 r 124 sb 17
Now tell me is the difference between these two guys worth justifying this
trade. Granted the yanks are ONLY paying him $16 mil a year with the Rangers
picking up the additional 9 mil. Soriano was to make $5 Mil this year. It just
seems with the difference the yanks could have gotten a top flight
starter---pitching wins championships! not offense. Arod finished dead last for
three years in texas. They couldnt wait to get rid of this guy once they
realized what a mistake it was to sign him. These damn yanks are not the A's of
the 70's or the Reds of the 80's. Both those teams had superior defense,
pitching and chemisrty. Look what the Marlins did to the yankees last year.
They handcuffed their offense. I dont think Arod would make that big a
difference in a 7 game series. Pitching is what wins and what will ultimately
make the yankees regret this trade.

Will the three I mentioned give the mets a veteren boost or will
they all be a bust in spring training. It does'nt seem or at least
after last season any of the young pitchers they used are ready. If
Floyd,Piazza,Cameron and others stay on track and the pitching comes
around the Met's look like they could contend with the east this season.
Let's go Met's

The MFU logo is in need of serious reworking. So I have decided,
since you guys are the reason it exists, to let one of you come up
with a winning logo.
Here are the contest rules.
1-It MUST be original. If I find the image was stolen or taken from
somewhere, it will be immediately destroyed.(I reserve this right.
We're not out for copycats, I want to see something creative!)
2-It has to be about the Mets!!!! This is obvious.
3-Keep these files to the smallest possible size. I can't find the
exact dimensions and sizes Yahoo! will allow me to place up, but I
know they do not allow much.(you can just right click and view the
current logo for dimensions and size approximations.)
4-Don't make it obscene! I had to put that in there, but I know you
guys won't do this anyway.
This is a chance for all of our creative minds to draw up something
truly unique. I know with the diversty we have here I will not be
disappointed!
This is a contest where you guys design the logo. I would love to
have a vote amongst us all, and may even open it up to voting, but
for now I feel as though a vote may do some honest people harm. So
currently I have devised a finalist plan. I select 3 pictures to
move on. You guys vote on the winning one.
All entries should be placed in the picture album title "MFU
contest." They are property of the group until the image is placed
as the MFU logo, then I shall retain temporary property of them for
the duration of its tenure as the logo. Don't worry I won't change
the logo unless it has something obscene on it.
Entries will be broken down into 3 finalists during the last week of
March 2004, where it will then be voted on by you guys for that
whole week. By the first regular season Mets game, the New Logo
will be posted.
Good Luck!
Thank You All!

LETS GO METS
If anything the Mets are trying to put themselves in a better
financial position than they have been in the last couple years. I
think they figure they probably won't contend no matter what so they
might as well do it with mid-range guys instead of over-priced guys.
BUT, I really don't think this was the year to do that. Look at all
the big name guys that swapped teams this year. Tejada, Vazquez,
Pettite, Brown, Sheffield, Pudge, Colon, Foulke, Vlad, Guardado, and
none of them for outlandish money that the Mets have laid out for
losers/has beens in the past. Big mistake this off season, bigger
than when they blew it with A-Rod.
I believe that was said to us as Met Fans going into the off season.
Am I wrong about that? I don't think so. Sure the Mets have brought
in Cameron who is a great defensive Centerfielder but he resembles
Brain Mcrae a little too much for my tastes. And Yes the Mets
brought in Kaz Matsui, who really needs to perform like Ichiro
instead of Shinjo. So far the best Japanese import to date has been
Alfonso Soriano...so my feelings are What have the Mets really done
to improve the team I have loved since 1972? The Mets got a safe
bullpen pick up in Braden Looper who essentially was traded for
Armando Benietez. Looper lost his job last year to Urbina. And
Urbina is still available, which makes no sense to me. The Mets
resigned Franco...I am all for loyalties but hey, Franco is neither
Younger nor more athletic and doesn't fit the who philosophy the Mets
were going to do. Karim Garcia was essentially traded for Tony
Clark. Garcia is nothing special and neither has the Mets off
season. Mets had chances to pluck away some major talent and on the
Young and more athletic side and instead wound up with Fillers. And
the people they got are no way near as marketable as some of the
players that were available. In addition, to the weak off season
transactions the best possible move was the victory over the British
Weather Service! It will be another long hot summer with the Mets
making little noise. And that is based on the strong offseasons of
other clubs. And this really says something considering major talent
shift to the American League.
