I'm telling if they don't get that middle relief straight you definitely can
write off 2009. That bullpen can't keep lead for nothing, they all need to be
sent to the minors. They stink.

I am still too stunned to even try to comprehend how you can get a leadoff
triple to start the bottom of the 9th in a tied game, and nobody can produce a
sac fly!!! And when the Cubs walked Delgado and Beltran to load the bases, with
1 out, a sac fly still WINS the game. Or a wild pitch, hit the batter,
something. The winning run is 90 ft away and these chokers found a way to lose
in 10. And there is talk of extending Omar thru 2012?? Why? If this club does
not go after K-rod in a serious fashion, as well as other middle relievers,
write off the 2009 season as well. And we were fooled into thinking they had
gotten over last September by their July/August record. What a CHOKE/JOKE.. ...

For Bill and other inquiring Mets fans, the Sept. 1 transactions were as
follows:

Recalled P Carlos Muniz, Jonathan Niese, IF Argenis Reyes and C Gustavo Molina
from New Orleans
Purchased contracts of P Ricardo Rincon, Brandon Knight, Bobby Purnell, and IF
Ramon Martinez from New Orleans
Activated IF Marlon Anderson from 15 day DL
Transferred P Matt Wise, Orlando Hernandez, Jason Vargas, and OF TrotNixon to 60
day DL
Designated P Willie Collazo for assignment

So far, Niese is looking good tonight, would be a welcome addition to the
rotation

so Perez pitched a gem tonight and has a bunch of quality starts in his last few
starts, his walks are down and his k's are up he is a fiery pitcher who has
great stuff when he's on. i think this will be one of the hardest decisions that
the mets will have to make this off season he will demand a lot of cash but if
he is lights out he will be worth it..i guess we will have to see who's on  the
free agent market and make a decision and does anyone know what manual is
thinking pulling Santana in the 8th after only 104 pitches i would let him
finish his games so that he can get some wins.if our bull pen could shut anyone
down i could see giving him a break but seeing as we are in a tight division
race and the bullpen is crap he should be throwing complete games that's y we
are paying him so much to be the man in our staff so Jerry needs to let him be
the man and not take him out if he can go

It is rumored that the Mets are interested in Casey Blake from the Indians, he
is their starting 3rd baseman but he has been a left fielder in his career he is
currently hitting .288 with 11 homers and 58rbi 2 steals...he would be a good
fit for the rest of the year. as for Damaso Marte he would be a solid addition
to the mets bull pen and would help in late innings if they can get t done they
should do it. on a side note i thought the decision to take joe smith out of
last nights game after facing one batter was a mistake. i believe he could have
saved the game for the mets

any addition to the bull pen would help but im not sure if the mets can offer
what other teams want i dont think the twins would give up liriano and why would
the mets want him he isn't even doing well enough at the AAA level to replace
even the twins 5th stater or anyone in their bullpen. as for tavaras or crisp
they are both center fielders and i believe chaves is better then both anyway
what about Marcus Thames left fielder from the tigers he is solid and and could
come cheap and there is always fernando martinez  i really think we need a
starter who can eat innings maybe zach duke from the pirates a change of scenery
and a better team would do him good and maybe if the marlins fall out of the
race by then one of there starter would be nice

hey guys, if brian fuentes is on the block still come the deadline, what do u
think the mets would have to give up to the rockies to get him? he'd solidify
the bullpen and make for a solid insurannce policy for wagner. also, signing joe
borowski wouldn't be a bad idea niether. he led the leahue in saves last season,
he blew way several this year but he is still serviceable in mid-relief,. the
mets can probably sign him for the league minimum. as far as starters are
concerned, i'm thinkin' maybe with all of the recent fuss in the papers, the
twins might be willing to part with fransico liriano. and as for bats, ichiru
suzuki, only cause the mariners are not going anywhere and the mets could lock
him up for the forseeable future, but what would the amazin's have to give to
get him right now? another possiblities include coco crisp, whom the red sox are
definitely willing to part with due to th emergence of rookie jacoby elsbury,
and willy

tavaras from the

rockies...u can never have enough speed. am i reaching a bit?

so the trade deadline is coming soon and the mets are right back in the thick of
things and there are several holes we need to fill. the mets need a starter
because who knows when pedro will break down again or how well he will do down
the line, Hernandez  is a question mark and so is oliver perez. the mets also
need to fill a cornor outfield spot tatise has been playing very well but can he
keep it up the rest of the season? and church is on again off again with post
concussion syndrome...lets not even talk about alou. and who doesnt need bullpen
help. i doubt that we will make a move for a starter because of the high asking
price of prospects for who's still on the block. outfield help will be the most
likely, possibly jason bay or maybe nady. i doubt the mets will get any bullpen
help of significance

The other day in the News Papers and on the radio the topic was "Santana had to

I guess he would have failed if he were asked the trick Question "What color is
Jerry's White Horse?"
Well the correct answer would be that it's not a White Horse Jerry rode in on a
Yellow Chicken and
that's how I describe the Mets last night.

signing joe borowski wouldn't be a bad idea niether. he led the leahue in saves
last season, he blew way several this year but he is still serviceable in
mid-relief,. the mets can probably sign him for the league minimum. as far as
starters are concerned, i'm thinkin' maybe with all of the recent fuss in the
papers, the twins might be willing to part with fransico liriano. and as for
bats, ichiru suzuki, only cause the mariners are not going anywhere and the mets
could lock him up for the forseeable future, but what would the amazin's have to
give to get him right now? another possiblities include coco crisp, whom the red
sox are definitely willing to part with due to th emergence of rookie jacoby
elsbury, and willy
  tavaras from the

rockies...u can never have enough speed. am i reaching a bit?

so the trade deadline is coming soon and the mets are right back in the thick of
things and there are several holes we need to fill. the mets need a starter
because who knows when pedro will break down again or how well he will do down
the line, Hernandez  is a question mark and so is oliver perez. the mets also
need to fill a cornor outfield spot tatise has been playing very well but can he
keep it up the rest of the season? and church is on again off again with post
concussion syndrome...lets not even talk about alou. and who doesnt need bullpen
help. i doubt that we will make a move for a starter because of the high asking
price of prospects for who's still on the block. outfield help will be the most
likely, possibly jason bay or maybe nady. i doubt the mets will get any bullpen
help of significance

Not to be outdone by their division rivals from the Big Apple, the Philly
Comcast station mentioned yesterday that the Nationals have 4 catchers on their
25-man roster. Leaping lineups, Batman- what- has the baseball world gone

Dave Kingman is no one's All Star.

Ed Kranepool has to be on there, if for no other reason--his pinchitting skills.

i knew he was from one of those 2 pa teams. thanx for the correction tim. perez
has has a few good years. he strays from what he does best too much to be
consistent. he thinks he's a jazz player out there tryin' to improvise or
something. he needs to stick with the stuff that gets him paid and listen to the
catcher when he gets them signs.

they way to build a championship team is to have a good base of young players
and to add one or two free agents to get over the hill you cant build a good
team via free agency. to get they young players you need to draft well and trade
well

exactly correct! the marlins, rays, and even the royals, got most of their good
players thru trades- the mets could use scott kazmir right now as well as brian
bannister. i think the big difference is coaching. these small market/small
payroll teams are overachieving and thats due to their coaching staffs, as much
as it is due to talent and luck. the draft and farm system is there to help
build the foundation of ur team. thru trades and free agency u build that
chanpionship caliber house, so to speak. teh problem with the mets is that
several players were brought in for a ton of money that were past their primes,
towards the end of their primes, or half way down the spiral to being roster
filler,i. alou. the mets need a theo epstein-like gm or a brian cashman before
the series lost to the marlins.

Tim you are not thinking the marlins do not got good scouts. when you trade 1
great player for 4 rooks if 1 or 2 pan out you look good. the marlins got 4
players on the 25 man roster that are home grown that Jeremy Hermida, Josh
Willingham, Scott Olsen, Rick VandenHurk and he isn't good, and last,Logan
Kensing. Now all the other guys that are great like Dan Uggla-Arizona
Diamondbacks, Hanley Ramirez- Boston Red Sox, Ricky Nolasco-Chicago Cubs, even
Alfredo Amezaga and Cody Ross came from other teams the Angels and Tigers. So
your telling me we have to trade great players like david w. and reyes etc to
get this tipe of team. the marlins and A's only trade players that are proven,
and they get rookies for them. like you said we can keep are young players
because we got money well we did reyes, david , maine etc. Not every team has
more then 3 to 4 home grown players. If they do like the Pittsburgh Pirates, and
look at what that got them...
think a little we don't have it that bad.. next year we got Pedro, alou, delgado,
hernandez, and oliver perez all off the payroll thats like $60 mil a lot to work
with. Thair are 13 realy good free agents pitcher next year like Ben sheets, and
john lackey get them then get Pat Burrell to play left he is a F/A next year,
and look for some one to play 1B...

they way to build a championship team is to have a good base of young players
and to add one or two free agents to get over the hill you cant build a good
team via free agency. to get they young players you need to draft well and trade
well

exactly correct! the marlins, rays, and even the royals, got most of their good
players thru trades- the mets could use scott kazmir right now as well as brian
bannister. i think the big difference is coaching. these small market/small
payroll teams are overachieving and thats due to their coaching staffs, as much
as it is due to talent and luck. the draft and farm system is there to help
build the foundation of ur team. thru trades and free agency u build that
chanpionship caliber house, so to speak. teh problem with the mets is that
several players were brought in for a ton of money that were past their primes,
towards the end of their primes, or half way down the spiral to being roster
filler,i. alou. the mets need a theo epstein-like gm or a brian cashman before
the series lost to the marlins.
