First off the chances of the philles beating the mets in a short divsion series
are impossible, since if the philles make the playyoffs, the only way they would
face the mets is if both met in the Championship series. You never play a
wildcarrd from your own division in the first round!
secondly, just what pichers would you have had them get during the year? there
was nothing available that was worth anything for a reasonable price. heck we
had to give up xavier nady to get roberto hernandez. and we have our own glut of
pitching to develop and see what they can do already as well. personally I'm
more content to home grow our guys in the minors, and have our farm system be
the main feeder to the big club, and add other cogs to the mix. I have no desire
to be a bought Team like the one in the bronx. I like the way Omar is going
about it, and finding the right "fit" not just the most expensive player at
every position.

Locking up Reyes, Wright, and paying Delgado well were really
excellent moves. I wonder why this team did not go for a few
established starters during the year. Could it be the owners said that
the bank is closed? Steveie T. starts today with his stratospheric
ERA. Martinez still might have something in the arm if he can
straighten out a few things. Orlando Hernandez has been fairly good
lately, but his arm is opldm as is that of Glavine.
Certainbly, with the Phillies so hot, should they reach the wildcard,
it seems really doubtful the Mets can beat up on their starters in a
short series for the NL division championship.
