According to MLB.com the Mets have told the Phillies that if Jon
Leiber, Tom Gordon or Bobby Abreu come availble to give them a call,
the Mets still show interest in Livan Hernandez.
If they try to acquire Zito, they would have to give up prospects,
the Mets would be better off to wait for him to become a free agent
and then join the bidding war. Leiber and Hernandez would not be too
bad, they eat up innings, even though their ERA's are a little high.
Gordon, where they play another closer, he probaly would not be too
happy setting up again. Abreu puts up good numbers, but he would mean
someone would now have to become a fourth outfielder. Any trade would
have to be made that would not interfere with the great chemistry.
It's probaly going to be a dead market again this year, I'm not
expecting much to happen. A blockbuster or any major trade would
involve a lot of prospects going somewhere.
