WOW! Mike and the mad-dog really pounded Jim Douquette yesterday.
They basically said everything that all fans wanted to say. They did
not back down and actually got a bit load with him. They asked things
like:

1. "Why give gaurantee Tom Glavine $36 million last year, but you
only guarantee Vlad $30 Mill. Where is the logic in that?"

2. Jim Douquette says that the reason for only guaranteeing only $30
mill was because the Mets were only willing to take a "certain level
of Risk" based on Vlads back. To this, Mike Francessa said "Then why
guaranteee him anything? If you are so concerned about his back, why
guarantee $30 million dollars. Either he is a good player or he's not"

3. They pounded home the FACT that the Angels STOLE this guy at that
contract based on todays salaries. $70 million over 5 years is $14
million per year!! Does anybody else realize the TREMENDOUS bargain
that is for a player of this caliper in todays market?? A-Rod makes
$25 mill per year. Jeter is at $21 mill per year. Gary Sheffield got
$13 mill per year. The Mets had a chance to get Vlad for a STEAL and
they did not want to spend the money!!! Vlad went on the market at
the perfect time for the Mets, and they passed him up.

4. They told Jim that the Mets organization is scarred from being
burned on past big contract signings. Chris Russo just could not
understand how the Mets were willing to take a chance on Tom Glavines
39 year old arm and give him $36 million dollars last year, BUT they
are only willing to guarantee a 28 year old SUPERSTAR $30 mill
because he went on the disabled list for the first time in his career
last year! AND, when he came off the DL, he posted the best numbers
for the rest of the season in the Majors!!!

5. Mike then asked Douqutte "why should the Mets fans have any hope
that the Mets front office knows what the hell it is doing?"

They summerized and put it into a nutshell...THE WILPONS DO NOT WANT
TO SPEND THE MONEY!!!!! THAT IS THE BOTTOM LINE!!! Remember,
DOubleday is the guy who brought in Piazza. WILPON DID NOT WANT
PIAZZA BECAUSE OF THE $. If it was not for Mr. Doubleday, we would
not have Mike Piazza.

Sorry fans, but our ownership sucks. It is tight with the money. It
will NEVER spend.

If Doubleday owned this team bt himself we would have Piazza, A-rod
and Vlad. He was the spender. Wilpon is the tightass. Now that the
Wilpons own it all, you can bet on the fact that we will not sign any
big stars becasue they demand $.

I don't know about everybody else, but I am NOT going to one Met game
this year. I have no interest.

WE FANS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. WHEN TICKETS GO ON SALE, PLEASE SHOW
YOUR DISGUST AND DON'Y BUY!!!! CAN YOU IMAGINE THE REACTION OF THE
MET FRONT OFFICE IF THEY DID NOT SELL OUT OPENING DAY!! PLEASE FANS,
STEP UP AND TAKE A STAND. DON'T GIVE WILPON ANY OF YOUR MONEY!!
AFTERALL, HE WILL NOT GIVE YOU A WINNING TEAM!!!!
