Personally, the Mets should try hard to make a trade for Carlos
Beltran and give him a restructured deal to stay with the Mets,
likewise what they did with Piazza. The Mets major problem is SP,
CP, 2B and one or both of CF and RF. Having Beltran would fill a
major void in the lineup and allows for one of the younger guys to
hit lower in the lineup as long as it's not 8th. Sheffield and Vlad
are too risky, and there's no use in Tejada or others. If they get
Beltran they should try to go after Foulke, Guardado for CP and
Millwood for SP. Everything isn't going to patch up this offseason,
so it's about planning for 2005 or even 2006 to have a competitive
and missing-linkless team out on Shea and the road for the NY Mets.
