Just thought I would chip in here. I don't think it is a matter whether
Bonds can hit or whether he is lacking as an outfielder. His personality and
special requirements make him too much of a distraction, especially for a
team of hard-working developing players. What manager wants him as an
example to follow? And as a fan, I want to enjoy each game and appreciate
the individual players. As a fan since the Mets first took the field in the
Polo Grounds, I'd rather be a fan of a sub .500 team of guys giving it their
best than a team of self-centered billionaires that wins 110 games. The
focus should be on what happens between the white lines. Right now, it would
just cost the Mets too much to obtain a name player. Even a guy like Xavier
Nady (who they should have kept when they had him) would require them to
part with key players and top prospects. They are going to have to plug
different guys in LF until Alou returns. But Chavez and Anderson deserve the
opportunity to show their stuff. We don't need Bonds.
