Hello Robb,
A number of people took an IDPA SO class a couple of months ago. The class was full and there were some who could not get in.  I talked with Dave Bold (IDPA Master and Instructor) who taught the class and he would gladly offer another one whenever there are enough interested folks. So...
If you, or ANYONE ELSE, reading this is interested in taking an SO class please e-mail me privately. I will start a list of prospective students and work with Dave on arranging a class.  The more people we have the higher the chance that the class is held closer to our home base.  Dave's home club is on the Cape.
ASO training is much simpler.  It requires watching a video (less than 1 hour) and can also be arranged once there is enough interest.
Look forward to replies.
Thanks,
Michael

Guys,
I am going to crack a moderator whip.
Please take OFF-LINE all discussions about USPSA, rules, mag counts, ARs, minis, Cape Cod properties, weekend shopping, and other activities not directly related to MetroWest Tactical matches and activities. Northeastshooters and many other forums exist just for this purpose.  We don't want to 'Riverside" this forum and will not let that happen.  The formal guidelines for postings will follow shortly. Meanwhile please try keeping chatter to a minimum.
Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.
Thanks,

Hello,

I just received an email from Dale Hutchinson of the Riverside club in Hudson thru their IDPA Yahoo Group.  He provided a pair of templates to design a course of fire and the various props to use with it.  He also suggested a very good point of taking an inventory of the available equipment and props to use for the various stage setups, which makes sense.  I have cut & pasted the email below for review and attached the two word docs as well.  Chances are most of you already having received this email as well, but in the event that is not the case here, it is.  With the weather breaking toward a milder trend, now would be a good time too repair or build barricades or whatever else might be needed to be done in preparation.  I am available too help anytime.

Stephen Jones.

For all the budding COF designers, I've started a match template and added a bunch of props in a Word document to make it easier for all to create their own COF.  I stole most of the props off of some web site.  If I could remember where, I'd give them credit.  Please send feedback and contribute.

Another thing I was thinking about is the inventory of what is in the shed.  Specifically, how many poppers, types of action-targets (love those surprise no-shoot hands), and barricades are available.  It could be a problem if we all design COF with more devices than are available.  If someone can tell me how to get the key, I'd be happy to run over and do the inventory.

Regards,
Dale

many no shoots in this stage but there is alot of netting and the saw

Robb- you did just fine with the G27- that's a tough gun to shoot
standing still, never mind on the move.

Ariel- Bruce Gray is all about trigger control and trigger prep. He
has convinced me it's the single most difficult (and important)

One last thing- the messages today didn't get forwarded to my email...

Hi,
After practice last night Gene asked me for comments or suggestions on
the practice and I didn't have anything to contribute off the cuff,
but after sleeping on it I have a few ideas.

1st thing to do is come to the IPSC practice some time and see how
they use the indoor space to set up stages. One trick they use to make
it seem larger and allow for more movement is to set up walls or
corridors by hanging up netting from the ceiling. This forces the
shooter to move to many more positions in order to see and engage all
the targets.

2nd, shooting targets on the move. IDPA requires that you must engage
targets on the move unless you are behind cover. One of the IPSC rules
in that indoor space is no shooting between the poles, this cuts in
half the amount of lateral distance (and time) you have to engage a
set of targets on the move. In our small indoor space this is very
challenging because if you move to far or too fast before finishing
engaging the targets you have to move backwards or stop. Shooting on
the move quickly and accurately is pretty advanced and we should
afford opportunities to practice it, but we should do it while moving
directly towards the target and not moving laterally the majority of
the time. Doing so laterally would probably be easier after we get
more experienced as a group and have more space. In a larger space
less experienced shooters will have the distance they need to walk
while engaging the targets and more experienced shooters can run it
through faster.

3rd, the order with which you move to the positions where you can
engage targets should be left to the shooter as much as possible as
the IDPA rules allow. Learning to quickly parse a course and find the
fastest way to engage all the targets is an important skill. My
impression from the IDPA I have done is that everything is heavily
scripted and the only way to do better is to go through the motions
more efficiently. We should be developing more than just shooting skills.

4th, I haven't seen any no shoots. This might be because the target's
aren't ready, but no shoots are another way to force the shooter to
move in order to engage targets much like the netting from the
ceiling. Coming to the IPSC practice slightly earlier can give you an
idea of the absolutely crazy ways they place no shoots. No shoots upon
no shoots upon no shoots with little bits of bad guy sticking out
between em. I love it.

5th, because you need to be behind cover in IDPA we are going to need
more barricades, something light and easy to move around when we want
to reset the course. The netting works fine. There are also saw horses
that we could kneel behind. There may be a few barrels that we can use
somewhere. Give the shooter a choice between multiple barricades,
maybe put a few decoy barricades that give a lousy view of some
targets. Let the shooter make mistakes (as much as the IDPA rules
allow) so that he can learn to recognize the faster way.

6th, Weak hand only, strong hand only, sitting on the ground or in a
chair, prone, one hand "tied" to an object, shooting at the target
through tubes. We should get a dummy and have the shooter start the
stage with dummy on top of him and make him throw the dummy off and
get up to draw. Anything you can think of to make life difficult for
the shooter.

7th, for general consumption (just something I wanted to share with
the group) http://www.grayguns.com/Grayguns_Dry_fire_Safety_packet.zip
It contains the key to shooting as accurately you want as quickly as
you want as long as you remember that practice does not make perfect.
Perfect practice makes perfect.
Hope this is useful.
Regards,
Ariel

We are back!

We waited till the middle of New England winter to challenge our
Mother Nature for that match.

This year we combine our forces with WRP and are running the match in
their pits.
Some changes to previous announcement:
No need to pre-register, just grab your gear, at least one 150 rounds
of ammo for your favorite blaster, and come out to shoot with us
defensive pistol stages.
Registration at 8.30 am.
Match starts at 9.00 am. till everyone is done.
We are offering a few challenging and fun to shoot stages.

Gene:

That is great news! I hope to shoot more with you guys this year. Harvard
is probably the best facility for IDPA in New England. I hope our program
at Pelham F&G will complement yours nicely. Let us know when you get a
schedule together. I will be happy to post it at my matches and pass the
word around. Our schedule is posted on www.pelhamfishandgame.com.

I will be shooting the S&W Winternationals on Thursday morning this year. I
hope to see some of you guys down there.

Regards,
Paul DiMarco

The boys of Metrowest Tactical are proud to announce an important step
in the development of our IDPA chapter at the Harvard Sportsmen's Club.

Last night, Michael Joffe made a presentation before the club's Board
of Directors, who welcomed our new chapter to the club. The board
also authorized a seed capital budget so that we can obtain the
targets and other essential supplies necessary to host a season of
matches and practices. Also, three members of Metrowest Tactical
added their names to the membership rolls at Harvard.

Please keep an eye on this list, as we will soon announce the dates
and times for our bi-weekly indoor practices, a planning meeting and
the date of our first match.

It's official, the fine folk at Metrowest Tactical and WPR have joined forces to start the year off on Saturday January 13th and set the stage for a long and fun filled IDPA season.

To sign up please email idpa@..., and we'll make sure to get you on the schedule.
As of right now we'll plan to do 2 start times, just like in the past at Riverside.  Please indicate your preference, and we'll try to accommodate.

Price for this match will be a very reasonable $15 for non-WPR members, and $10 for members.  Also this month on January 7th starting indoors at 6:30pm is the first practice of the year.  Practices will be held the first Sunday of every month starting at 6:30.

Dear fellow Metrowest Tactical members,

Next year will be an interesting year for us. The Harvard
Sportsmens Club has been called by some "Daytime Disneyland". This
nickname really fits. If you want to drive by and check out the club,
visit the club's web site to get some driving directions --
www.harvardsportsmensclub.com.

Once you visit, I think you'll quickly see why Gene Gelberger,
Michael Joffe and I are all members of this club. Please join us by
becoming a new member too.

Keep an eye on this list for the announcement of our first match of
the new year. This one comes with an exciting twist!
