The clowns are at best a joke and more than likely a death cry in the
dark. The ears on the Mr America outfit do not work, but i guess are
a must to keep from infringing on the Capt America copyright. The 2-
cool-2 angle is not working. Who can take them seriously as a heel
when they act like fools. The outlaws were destroyed as a true heel
team when they had to work to renee. MW needs a true heel that is
underhanded and sneaky and oozes pure evil. Send the cowboys away and
bring them back under a mask and full body tights to cover some of
the flabbiness and hide the youthful looks of the younger cowboy. I
believe the KAW writing team had more creative ideas than the current
staff. Believe me the KAW crew was about as lame as they come. I wish
kevin White was about 50 pounds heavier and maybe 6 inches taller.
While small compared to other wrestlers at least lawler had the i can
out smart and out tough anyone image. I think the main problem is
that the company doesn't have anytone who can take over for lawler as
the main man.

So that explains it. I was away from home all weekend so I set my VCR
to tape both Smackdown and MW. At first I thought it was a Smackdown
problem, but the same thing happened with Memphis Wrestling, so I
figured I had a bad tape.

I almost threw away a perfectly good tape for nothing.

One of the thing that they will say...and I am not being racist but they
(Memphis Wrestling hierarchy) think there are too many African Americans
on the shows...I know nobody wants to speak it but I think that is their
way. With Tat 2, Bishop, Poker, Rude, Reno Diamond, Koko, Edrick Hines,
Rashard, and Johnny Dotson {and this is a sad thing to say} but I feel
that the MW people feel that there are too many blacks on TV and that is
why they did what they did to Poker and Rude {with a white face clown
gimmick}. Let's call it like we see it. I think that it is a bunch of
crap but just take a good look at it.

Tina,
I understand your MW pain. :o) It definitely is not as
good a show as what we all grew up with. I won't even
go where I think with the Clown storyline, excpet that
it is a little too goofy.

As for the MIC problems, I noticed that my Smackdown!
taping had the same problem. Actually it has the last
couple of weeks. Maybe it's a channel 30 thing. It was
kinda fun to watch COrey this week with his voice
sounding manly then like Minnie Mouse. Gave me
something to smile about... )yeah, I know- I'm weird..
was in a weird mood so I kept laughing- driving my son
nuts) :o)

As for Lawler and the pitch at the Indians game. I
guess it was on there bc everyone who has watched
Lawler long knows how much he loves the Indians and
the Browns. I guess it was to appeal to the Lawler
fans. I actually didn't mind seeing that. I thought it
was a great honor for him since it is his favorite
team. Would have been better for him if they would've
cut the tape before showing how terrible his pitch
was. I guess now we know why he is in wrestling and
not baseball. (however I figured his pitch would be
better since he had his softball team, Lawler's Army,
all those years)

Like I said, I can understand your "pain", and sense
it too at times. I know they could do better, but I am
a true MW fan and will keep watching (with help of
TiVo).

I'll agree the shows are a little piss poor lately, but I don't like the
alternative. I hated having no Wrestling for the years in
between Power Pro and what we have now. There were also a lot of complaints
about Randy Hales and Power Pro.

Wrestling will never be as good as what we had in the good ole days. There were
always ones back then to fill the shoes of the older
guys as they retired & etc. Brian could've easily stepped up when Jerry
retired. Jamie Dundee could've stepped in when Bill steps
out and just on and on, but these younger guys can't seem to keep their head
screwed on right long enough. Lawler can't be around
enough to run the company by himself with his WWE commitments; so he needs
someone like Corey to run the day to day things. No,
he's not the best but I think he owns part of the company. It also seems like
Watson must have a good interest in the company.

I may be wrong about some or all of this, but it still better than no Memphis
Wrestling at all. IMO.

Boy do I remember that angle, I would tune in every week to see what
The Snowman would say, and what Lawler, and remember Lawler got into
it with Leon Spinks, and Lawler calling him Leon Stinks.

As far as this Clown idea, I thought this is so stupid and I was
wondering when it would end up on wrestlecrap.com, as with the other
gimmicks from Memphis, Madison Carter, one of the writers on
Wrestlecrap would wonder what the promoters were smoking(Almost every
gimmick from Memphis he has asked that question).

You know the saying if it's not broke don't fix as far as Pokerface
and his partner there was nothing wrong with the team so it should
have not been messed with. As far as Memphis Wrestling is concern
it's broke and it defintely needs fixed but not with stupid gimmicks,
etc.

after watching Memphis wrestling for over 40 years, this is one of
the lamest; most pathetic ideas for a tagteam I have ever seen.. I am
not belittling the workers, just the idea..
the ONLY angle I see which would work on this one would have to be
similiar to the one back around '90-'91 between Eddie Crawford [aka
The Snowman] and Lawler.. the racial card was played on tv with
Lawler holding back certain wrestlers because of their color.. to me,
this angle really played the circuit big time for the limited time it
ran..

since I am not a booker, do not know exactly how to mesh everything
together, but it would be something like the clowns coming out during
a Lawler interview and spraying him with that goofy silly string
stuff..
Lawler would leave them both lying in the middle of the ring, when
Koko would come to their assistance.. he could talk the clowns into
removing their masks and then shoot on Lawler about how he 'holds'
certain wrestlers back from getting a push.. Koko could use himself
as an example..
having Lawler -vs- Koko would hopefully bring back some of the
enthusiasm in spending 60 minutes on a Saturday morning to be glued
in front of the tv.. [provided Koko is not forced to 'work' like he
had to with Corey..]
funny.. growing up, it seemed the 90 minute program was always over
in 15 minutes, it was such great entertainment.. now, it seems the 60
minute show unfortunately lasts 6 hours...
just my 2 cents...

Channel 30 seems to be having audio problem. They had the same problem with
Smackdown Friday night. I thought the WWE was doing it
with canned noise or whatever.

Steve Holsten

Kennett, MO.

Then Corey's mike kept having problems. Why does that sort of thing always seem
to happen to Memphis Wrestling?

Thank you. Your mention of the cancelled fan appreciation show, etc
is what I am talking about. That seems to happen a lot with this
promotion, so how are we supposed to take it seriously. It is
ridiculous that Corey won't spend two seconds mentioning other
Memphis Wrestling cards he is not involved with because he won't get
paid. It is for the good of the entire promotion and the more
professional the promotion seems the better the product is accepted.
That is business 101. I used to think Corey was a nice guy, but I am
seeing some things that make me question a few things.

I also believe if you are honest with your fans, they respect you
more even when you make mistakes. At the last card, where 600 fans
got the special deals at the Southaven arena, everyone is aware there
wasn't even 600 in attendance, yet Corey talks about the "big crowd."
I just feel it could be so much more and I guess I find it hard to
fathom that so many people on this board and in a few other places
defend it or try to pretend it is anywhere close to what it once was.
I have heard Lawler wants a new developmental deal with the WWE but
Vince McMahon has declined and he is probably wise to do so. For one,
Lawler has a deal with two other Memphis promotions that folder, so
how many times can you get burned and frankly the product we are
currently getting wouldn't exactly encourage me to want to do
business with them.

I agree with you on most of the gripes you have with Memphis Wrestling. I grew
up watching it in the ' 70's also and I know how good it was then and how bad it
is now.
There is a real simple solution to this whole situation: GET RID OF COREY
MACLIN AND DO IT NOW !!!! I have no gripes with them getting Lawler on every
show and that is because Jerry Lawler IS Memphis Wrestling and if it wasn't for
him there would be no Memphis Wrestling.
The reason that the wrestlers being in other areas and not being mentioned is
because if that gets mentioned on Memphis Wrestling Corey has to get paid.
I have been to 90% of the Memphis Wrestling shows that have been around lately
and I also went to the Fan Appreciation Night in Jackson on 7-21-06 and it was
cancelled. Way to show us fans how much we are appreciated Corey. Stuff like
that and the cancelled boot camp don't get mentioned on TV because it makes
Corey look bad. I sent MW an e-mail asking what happened to the fan appreciation
show and guess what, no reply.
I will continue to watch the TV shows, but I will never spend another cent to
go see them live. The only way I will ever see another live MW show is if they
set up a ring in my front yard and I can watch from the porch.

I know what you all are thinking. Uh oh, here comes another gripe
fest, but I just had to get this off my chest. I skipped Memphis
Wrestling for the last two weeks because I just couldn't take the
lack of professionalism. This week I decided to watch for a few
minutes hoping something miraculous had happened. Let's just say I
lasted about ten minutes. First of all, the show starts with the
Memphis Wrestling sign rocking back and forth behind Corey. I don't
know why that gripes me but it just strikes me as something that
wouldn't happen on a professional show. Then Corey's mike kept having
problems. Why does that sort of thing always seem to happen to
Memphis Wrestling? I don't recall that happening much during the
Lance Russell-Dave Brown years. Next the clowns come out and I am
sorry but that gimmick is stupid. This is 2006, people don't want
that anymore. WWE and TNA has ruined that sort of gimmick and it just
doesn't work for me. Of course, I remember back in the day when Tommy
Gilbert came out as Freddy and even growing up thinking that was
stupid. Bad idea King.

Speaking of Lawler, they will find any excuse to get him on every
program despite the fact he is rarely there. I am glad he got to
throw the first pitch out at a ballgame but that was to promote the
WWE, which is fine, but this is Memphis Wrestling and we only have an
hour. It added nothing and the King's "screwball" lacked a lot to be
desired. And just for the record, I am still mad two months later
that I wasted my time with the ECW Pay Per View and Lawler loses in
30 seconds. He wrestles up there only a few times a year and it seems
like he gets humilated 80% of the time but then he is still the King
in Memphis. It bugs me sorry.

Realizing I would rather be doing other things I am in the process of
getting up and Bill Dundee comes out to be Corey's guest announcer.
First of all Corey seemed to have no idea a break was due, you could
tell by the look on his face, that was a slip up on his part and then
Bill had a slip of the toungue where he said it says right here Corey
and Bill a break, then he quickly changed it to Corey and now I have
added my name. WRONG! Your name was obviously already on the sheet
and you realized your mistake. Look, we are all human but why is it
that this organization can't put on a good show? Why was there no
mention that most of the guys were scheduled in Dyersburg? I even
heard Lawler won one half of some tag belts in Selmer a few weeks
ago. Why was there no mention of the cancelled bootcamp?

I know I complain all the time but I am trying so hard to like this
product and I find it increasingly more difficult to do it. In
closing, I am ready for some new talent to come in that can actually
excite the fans.

Let's start by getting Corey out of the ring and maybe even off the
air. You cannot have an announcer who is larger than most of your
wrestlers and then place him in the ring where he will not work to
the actual wrestlers. Time to beg, borrow or steal any talent you may
be able to locate in other regional promotions. Very little talent in
the promotion and what little talent they do have is being wasted.
While lawler has earn his place on the show, all the times he allowed
hmself to be humilated on the wwe broadcast has all but killed the
mystique if the king. Koko should go back home and get rid of
everything associated with wrestling for after he allowed himself to
be embarrassed by corey koko is dead and only james ware remains. No
one currently in the roster can carry this company single handedly.
Maybe a trip to the roids factory of your local gym could find a
couple of ex football players who can be brought in to destroy the
faces. They do not even need mic skills, place a mask on them give
them a geek manager to do all the talking and let them dominate.
Without the mic skill it is far less likely that they could be bought
out from under you.
