Hi Brett,

I have not had the pleasure of knowing William Yeung, but I knew Wong
Li in 1984. He taught quite an amazing array of forsm - Fu Tai Chi,
Leung Yee Tai Chi, Sun Tai Chi, Yin Ba Gua (circular), Yang Ba Gua
(linear), Xing Yi Quan, Tiger Boxing, various staff, spear, sword and
sabre forms, various boxing forms ........ It was almost like a
contemporary (modern) WuShu school, but I suspect that although he
may have been trained in those physical culture institutes in China of
the 1960s and 1970s, he did train in traditional WuShu under Fu Wing
Fai as his master also. Hence, he is not the usual contemporary WuShu
teacher.

Wong Li says he trained under Fu Wing Fai since he was about the
tender age of 5 years old, thus making him perhaps the most senior
disciple of Fu Wing Fai. Actually, if I remember correctly he implied
so. His form work is very good.

Regards,
John Chow

Hi John,
Thanks for the info and for joining my group! My old Fu style sifu also has
vanished, William Yeung, who was no longer here when I moved back to Sydney.
Anyway he may also be in Melbourne, he was working in his regular job during
the week down there at one stage...
I have heard of Bow Sim Mark, she is still teaching in Boston, though I think
her students do most of the teaching there these days. I am visiting family
down there in Melb this weekend so anyone there who is interested, I'll let
them know about your group.
Brett.

Hi Brett,

1) Wong Li's chief student is Fred Li who used to live in Doncaster
     East.
I think he still does. But I lost touch with him.
Fred Li is the most able student of Wong Li and should be able to
     represent Wong Li.
I do not know where Wong Li has moved to - he seems to have
     disappeared totally from Melb!

2) Thanks for the invitation. I have just joined your group.

3) Please extend invitation to any Melbourne Tai Chi practitioners to
join this group when you meet up ith them. This group is for
them! It is not for me. It is also not a 'one issue' or 'one
     event' pusher.

4) Wong Li was a student of Fu Wing Fai. For how long, I can not
confirm - there are conflicting accounts. But he certainly can be
confirmed to be a student of Fu Wing Fai. He is quite fluid in his
Ba Gua and Xing Yi and Leung Yee Quan movements, as well as other
Shaolin-like stuff such as Tiger Boxing, staff, WuShu sword and
spear etc. I agree with Erle Montaigue in his article in the old
AFA magazine that (at that time) Wong Li would probably be one of
the top WuShu masters in Melbourne. I have a copy of that article
somwhere in my junk of archives. :):):)

5) Only very remotely related to your project:- the lady Master Bow
Sim Mak of USA was also a student of Fu Wing Fai, I assume. Have
not heard about her for more than 10 years.

Warmest regards,
John Chow

Dear all,

In order to develop skills in my own students, specifically certain
aspects of Tai Chi and Arnis, it has been my wish to establish
definitive `special interest groups' which meet regularly to practise
their specialised arts.

The workshops are a way of introducing the specialised skills of the
art to students and the general public. So that we get as many people
to know about the art, and to raise our profile. These workshops are a
prerequisite to the special interest groups, just as every profession
organisation or elite group has its prerequisite qualification for
membership entry. The special interest groups are not for the general
public to join. They are elite, and exclusive to my students and those
who have attended my prerequisite workshops.

The special interest groups are a means to follow up on the skills
that have been introduced to participants in my workshops.
Participants who wish to continue their training and develop their
skills are advised to join the groups.

In future workshops, participants will be asked to indicate the
desired frequency of meeting, days, and times

The first 2 special interest groups to be formed will be:-
Tai Chi Push Hands Society
Tai Chi Staff Fighting Society

Prerequisites for the Push Hands Society are the Introduction to Push
Hands workshop, and the Beginner Push Hands workshop 1 only at this stage.

Prerequisites for the Staff Fighting Society are the Introduction to
the Quarter Staff, and the Tai Chi Staff of Lu Tong Bao.

In order for this to happen, I am offering to repeat these workshops
to give those who missed the previous workshops to attend.

This is the 1st of a series of 10 Push-Hands workshops bringing the student from Novice to Advanced levels.

Sifu John Chow wishes to form his own elite Push Hands group and attendance at such workshops is a prerequisite.  You must have certain level of knowledge and skills before you are allowed to join any elite of professional organisation or even to enrol into a course, so that is no difference with Tai Chi Push-Hands group.
