On a cold Saturday in January 1998, a half-dozen hockey players from the areas of Baltimore and Washington, D.C. got together and formed the Mavericks Field Hockey Club. Today there are over 700 members in the club, ranging from curious beginners through collegiate athletes to international tournament players, and from non-playing supporters, umpires, and sports enthusiasts.

Mavericks FHC has become one of the largest clubs in the country, offering playing opportunities to youngsters as young as 8 years old to seniors. The Mavericks have teams for boys and girls, and adult men, women, and mixed. Our members are primarily made up of players from Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia, with some traveling from as far North as New York and as far South as Georgia.

Our regular outdoor tournament schedule (April through January) includes competition in Michigan, Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Arizona, New York, and Florida with regular appearances at the USFHA National Festival, the Atlanta Cup, the Boston Challenger and the US Championship Cup at Virginia Beach. We move indoors from December to March with our annual Rockville Indoor League and compete at indoor tournaments along the East Coast.

This past season our men’s team took third place at the US Championship Cup, and reached tournament finals in Philadelphia and Atlanta; our women’s team reached the final of the Boston Challenger, and were crowned champions in Atlanta; our mixed team achieved remarkable success reaching six tournament finals including the National Festival and the Cactus Classic in Phoenix, taking championship crowns at the Spartan Classic in Michigan, the New York 7s, the Philadelphia Heatwave, and the Old Redskins Park 7s in DC.

We enjoy the social aspects of hockey as well as the sport itself, and we believe in having fun while we strive to improve our game. You are invited to join us!
