Yes, I know. I have been in martial arts for over 12 years. I am not
new to this. I have been teaching for 3 years. I do not use the
traditional ways of teaching. I prefer to "customize" according to my
student. Everybody is different. Techniques has to be modified for
each person. A person 6 feet tall may be able to throw a person over
his shoulder that may stand 5'9 fairly easy, but take someone 5 feet
tall. They on the other hand will have to modify that throw a little
to make the same technique work. Old school was not like that. You can
still open a school governed by the instructor not some organization.
Yes you have to have a business license and things of that nature and
yes you do have to worry about liability like you said but that is
just part of any business. Fortunately I live in a small town so
getting started isn't quite so difficult to gain students. The
government has no part in who I train, what I teach or how I run my
school. A martial arts school is a privatively owned business. They
can not govern it no more than any other privatively owned business or
school of any kind. I have made sure to cover all aspects like
liability when I began teaching. I have friends who to own schools. We
work together sometimes and share ideas. However I do agree that
because you have a high rank does not mean you can teach as well. You
have to be prepared for that mentally and takes some assisting others
for a while which I did for 2 years before I began teaching on my own.
In my opinion the only thing that entitles anyone to teach is the fact
that the Instructor or Sifu wants to pass there knowledge on to
others. Once you achieve your first blackbelt/sash then one just begin
to learn. At that point you have learned all the basics and now begin
to master those basics.A true master perfects there basics better than
anyone else in there class. There for I have a 3rd Dan blackbelt I am
mastering what I know, not trying to wait on my instructor to die or
beat him at something. Just simply knowing the basics and perfecting
them to an art. I have a long ways to go before I am considered a
Master but I will just keep on honing by basic skills and see what
happens. Being in martial arts is like life. In life you start out as
a baby, which is a white belt in Karate, Then you learn to walk, run,
and so on, same thing in Karate. You learn the basics one step at a
time. Rank is just a way for schools to make money and keep students.
In the old days there were no ranks. Just white then when it got dirty
you had a brown then black belt. I hope this makes sense. God Bless
Y'all!

where you got black and you opened up a club and trained "those days
are gone" and I dont thinks a bad idea as we have brought all this
upon ourselves suppose instructors training in all kinds of styles
and systems Now with qualications being governed by NGB and
endorsements by UKAS and now the goverment one UKCC its very difficult
just assume a role of which teaching is carried out by anybody
