Here is
an email sent by one of our Staff members re an incident that happened this
past weekend.
Take
the time to read – it is worth it. I was also on the scene so I can
personally verify everything mentioned below.
Morne
"I will try it out when I have money"
"I need to get fit first"
"I don't need that, I can handle myself"
"I cant find the time"
These are just a few of the excuses I hear from
people when I speak to them about what they do for their own personal
protection, people like you and me that pay our taxes and try and live a good
safe life but still fall victim to violent crime.
We cannot rely on the SAPS, CCPO or whatever private
security company to keep us safe (although they do a great job trying),
these people we hope will protect us cannot camp in the front garden and
follow us around all day so it is up to every single individual to take
responsibility for their own safety and stand up to violent crime.
A simple little story to illustrate my point
(names, ages and other details have been omitted from this
article so as to protect the identity of the victims)
On the evening of Saturday 01 February at around 8pm a
group of 7-10 friends were having a braai at a residence (with big dogs) not
far from Seadoone Mall, Amanzimtoti. when three armed ( Zulu speaking ) men
suddenly jumped over the garden wall, cocked their pistols and ordered their
victims into the house where they were searched and stripped of their
valuables, one of the occupants of the house was singled out and taken at
gunpoint through the house so as to point out the location of hidden valuables
and the safe.
Unknown to the "home invaders" was that
one of the people present at the braai had run into the house the moment the
three of them had jumped over the fence, and had locked themself in a
room where they knew a legal firearm was kept, this individual ( who I
will call X
) stayed calm, and as they could not get to a phone made a lifesaving decision,
to take a stand against the three "home invaders".
X remembered the tactical firearm and personal protection
training they had received from Morne Swanepoel and CombatCoaching.com and
confronted one of the "home invaders" in the house passageway,
a brief shootout ensued and the "home invader" was fatally
wounded in the abdomen and head, at this point another "home invader"
fled through the open back door, shortly after, the third "home
invader" was confronted by X in the lounge where he had
been holding the braai guests and sorting through his "loot"
shots were fired and a physical hand to hand battle ensued between the
"home invader" and X, this third "home invader" was
severely beaten about the head and upper torso by X but managed to break
free and escape, not before firing several shots at X. X then took
control of the scene, made sure all the guests were safe and uninjured and
pressed the panic alarm.
I cannot state how long it took the SAPS or CCPO to arrive
on scene but it was almost 45 min before the security company to
responded to the panic alarm. After all the gunsmoke had cleared and the
victims had taken stock of the situation one "home
invader" lay dead, another escaped with facial injuries and the other
melted away into the bush, several small items such as cell phones and cameras
had been taken, none of the victims suffered physical injury.
I interviewed a neighbor and he stated that had heard
the three Zulu speaking men planning their robbery in the street, saying that
they would "kill the white dogs (meaning people at the braai) and
load the stolen goods into one of the guests cars" (the robbery went down
as he was trying to phone for help)
I interviewed X, who I know did the Combatcoaching.com
classes but had left due to medical/study reasons, and they said to me at the
scene that if it was not for the tactical training they received, many innocent
people could have been seriously hurt or killed
****
To all those reading and thinking that X is a six foot
six rugby player, you are WRONG, X is in fact a WOMAN no taller than 5 feet,
she saved the lives of her family and friends not with brute strength, but by
practical application of tactical training.
If you are serious about your safety and that of your
family, it is vital that you know how to protect yourself, I spent 8 years in
the SAPS and only really learned to protect myself after joining
CombatCoaching.com, it is never too late to learn, you are never too old or too
weak.
Its not a matter of "if" but rather
"when" you will fall victim to violent crime, its up to
YOU to decide how you want any encounter to end, so instead of rolling on
our backs to crime, take a stand to literally fight back, refuse to be a
soft target!
