Folks,
Here is the latest news on our get-together about Marlboro Raceway
history on January 20th, 2007:

When: January 20, 2007 at 10:00am to 3:00pm
Where: Fairview Marriott, Falls Church, VA
Why: There are several things we hope to accomplish
a) Begin to peruse and categorize the
Washington DC Region SCCA memorabilia bequeathed to
the Region by the late Dave Roethel. (I
doubt that we'll finish this effort, but we'll at least
begin. With many veterans eyes
reviewing it, we ought to be able to ID some of it)
b) Have fun seeing veteran racing buddies and
meeting "new" folks who "were there" during
the Marlboro heydays.
c) I will layout some of the Region's plans
for exploring our history and how -- for those of you
can help or are interested -- may join
me in this long-overdue preservation/sharing effort.
d) Reinforce our network of Marlboro veterans
for the future.
e) Did I mention, have fun?

Some of you may be attending from outside the DC Metro area. The
Region has authorized overnight accommodations at the Fairview for
those who need it. Our guideline is basically this: if you live
beyond a 3+ hours drive, we can provide a room. PLEASE LET ME KNOW AS
SOON AS POSSIBLE IF YOU NEED A ROOM. Obviously, this is so we can
make those reservations.

The Region is providing refreshments and lunch for this meeting. If
you have any unusual dietary requirements, PLEASE LET ME KNOW NOW SO
WE CAN INFORM THE FAIRVIEW. I'm a diabetic myself, so I'll obviously
want to address that concern (diet sodas, etc.), but still have
regular goodies for everyone else.

There are roughly 25 of us planning to attend. It is possible there
may be a few more. Please let me know if you have asked anyone else
and hadn't told me before. Our space is limited and we want to have
enough refreshments for everyone.

The Region is holding its annual Regional Awards Banquet that
evening. This is not really part of "our" meeting. However, the
Region would like to introduce you folks at the beginning of the
banquet. Additionally, after introducing you folks I will present a
brief (!) talk about our History goings-on and show a video of some
Marlboro movies from the 1960s. If you want to stay for the banquet,
we can do that, but I will need to know before January 20. You are
welcome to attend it, the Region just needs to know in time so they
can have enough seating, food, etc.

Depending on the number of you who elect to attend the banquet, I may
be able to show a few of those Marlboro movies during our meeting.

Soon I will send you folks a list of the participants, and I'm sure
you're gong to recognize of number of those names. As Rick (Humphrey
Bogart) said in the classic film Casablanca, "...I think this is the
beginning of a beautiful friendship!"
