Re: Special Autographed Edition of Bonneville Salt Flats history boo   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #1838 of 1944 |
If you have a fondness for the Salts, it's lore and richness, here's a rare opportunity ... never to be repeated.

My long time friend and tale teller, the first lady of straight line speed, Louise Noeth is offering the last of her collection ... replete with a wealth of signatures! If you don't know the names Murphy ... Vesco ... or Xydias, you owe it to yourselves to find out.

If you pass up this offer, don't weep on my shoulder.

Cheers, Bob

Hello

Quite some time ago, many of you receiving this note expressed an interest in purchasing the special autographed edition of my Bonneville Salt Flats history book. If you are not interested, forgive the intrusion to your mailbox, I can’t find the original reservation list, only numerous scribbled notes that included each of you, but may have had nothing to do with the book. I thought it better to send this than to forget you.

Realizing that getting more signatures now that I live in sweet old Missouri would be rather rare I have decided to release the special numbered copies for sale with 92, instead of the 100 signatures that I had originally planned.  The complete list of signatures is noted in the table below, but includes some of the fastest folks on earth and many, many milestone champions.  With 500 vehiles pre-entered this year, one trip to the salt and you ought to be able to double the number of signatures!

There are only 49 copies in honor of the first year (1949) that hot rodders raced on the salt. I will personalize each edition with my signature and number notation “1 of 49, 2 of 49,” and so on. Don’t ask for #1, it’s mine. So I guess there will only be 48 for sale. The books are the last of the cloth, hard cover editions that I have been dragging around for several years getting signatures from the land speed racing greats who graciously agreed to help me put this project together. This means the books are a bit scuffed and the pages have been flipped nearly 100 times each as every person signed their name. I have done me best to keep the books as pristine as possible, but there is some visual wear after all the handling. Browse the list, you’ll see some folks are no longer with us.

A portion of every sale will become a donation to SAVE THE SALT.

The cost of the book is $250. each – plus shipping of your choice. I will honor as many requests for specific numbers and intend to keep a registry of all 49 original buyers/owners.

If you are no longer interested, no problem, I simply wanted to give you advance notice because later this week, on July 11th I will be bringing the books the Goodguys meet in Columbus, Ohio where I will be giving a multi-media presentation on land speed racing to enthusiasts This event draws more than 7,000 hot rods. I can’t imagine 7,000 hot rods in one place, but I’m soon to see this spectacle for myself.

Please try to reply before Thursday, July 9th if you have any interest in obtaining one of numbered copies.

Speedy Regards,
