Hey All,
So glad this site is here. I saw that Tanya posted about her Tack
sale and also the Jam on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. We have been
hosting these events in the area for a year now and get a decent
turnout.    Anyone who would like to bring posters/info/booth on
events you have coming up please do so. It is about promoting the
western way and the equestrian lifestyle so anything related works.
In fact we would love to find some braiders, chuckwagon/dutch oven
cooks, sketchers/painters, old time instrument musicians and other
such western artists who would like to teach classes for the Maricopa
Butterfield Cowboy Heritage Club. Wes has had several requests that
he teach a wilderness packing class and we would like to offer that
this spring.
The Turkey Jam will be Katy Creek, Les Buffam, Jon Messenger, Joe
Baer, The Prestons, Call of the West and whoever else shows up. We
are going to have a loose jam for anyone to participate in and have
some young brand spanking new reciters and songwriters coming. So,
even if you are new at this, you are welcome and encouraged,
especially young folks
We start at 2 pm on Sunday after Thanksgiving and will jam till we
run out of steam.  Bring your turkey leftovers and we will do our
darndest to make sure you don't have to eat it next week.

I am a horse trainer and riding instructor who lives in North Casa
Grande.  Im glad to find this group so as to have people to ride with!
Beyond that, this is a shameless plug for my business Horses Inc. (If I
cant do this type of thing let me know) I teach all breeds horses and
riding disciplines and am focused on working toward my clients goals
with their horses.  I have done some saddle and bit fitting. My own
critters are arabians whom I've shown and ridden on trail and even

A friend of mine, Bruce Wood, is hosting a cattle clinic at the P&M Arena in Apache Junction Jan 19th.  The event will include warm up games (natural horsemanship), a practical trail ride, lunch (included), instruction and cattle games.  All of this for $40/rider or $10/auditor includes lunch.  The event will run 8:30-4pm.

 

If you've never worked cattle with your horses, this is a GREAT learning experience.  I took my young mustang last year and he LOVED it.  We played arena games with barrels, pulling logs on ropes, etc., then got to learn how to cut cattle.  It's amazing to see how every type of horse adapts to this unique learning situation and I highly recommend it.  I'll be taking my new mare, Di, this year since Zeus will be recovering from a week long camp the week prior, so it will be interesting for me personally to see how an emotional Arab responds differently than a mellow mustang.  I might just land in the dirt a time or two! 

 

I know this isn't a local event and a bit of a haul, but if anyone wants to carpool, I have a two horse straight load and truck and can share a ride.

I believe this is the first month going back to days, so that means 8am Registration for a 9am start for the show classes.  Gymkhana generally starts after lunch, so check in for those events are around Noon.  Kit or Belinda, is that right? 

 

I was looking forward to getting back to the shows this month, but I'm on doctor's orders not to ride for a few more weeks.  I'm going to try and drop off some MaricopaHorsinAround flyers to Dawn Saturday a.m. before I head to Fountain Hills to audit the Ricky Quinn clinic.

Hey all! I hope it is ok to post this here. I am going to have a little "cowboy/western/used tack" boutique just through Christmas, here in my "warehouse/garage".

I am working on getting a "temporary use permit" from Pinal County at the moment, so this time so a local "busy body" doesn't turn me in this time! (Most of you can probably guess or know who that was!) But I am hoping to have it all in place and ready by the end of this week. (Friday after Turkey day!)

I will have a decent variety of used tack, (a few new items too!) lots of western style decor items, a few nostalgic type aniques, old western type stuff too. Good prices, for great stuff!

I am on the SW corner of Brewer and Mockingbird.

Also, the Sunday after Thanksgiving we are having the Katy Creek Band and guests for a "Turkey Jam" music get together. Everyone is welcome! It is at 2 PM on Sunday also in the "warehouse". Call or email me for any details. (520) 568-5505.

Its wonderful to finally find people here in Papago Buttes that want
to start getting together! I have lived here for about 4 yrs and
really haven't gotten out much to find anyone. I have two horses, a
16yr old quarter horse mare, Annie,  who I have owned for about 12
yrs. I also have her paint son, Sage, who is coming 7. I have to
say....Sage is the coolest ever! I love them both to death. I have
not been able to do much riding at all in the last 18m due to medical
issues and some major surgeries but now I am cleared to go!! Can't
wait!!

Okay, Belinda sent me the link to this, so blame her for me showing up

I'm all for getting some riding companions in the immediate area.  I
have a useable 2-horse trailer, but no tow vehicle, so I'm pretty much
limited to whatever's in riding distance -- and now that I'm back
living in Papago-Thunderbird Farms, there actually IS stuff in riding
distance!  Whoo-hoo!

If y'all don't know me, I used to raise Appys and I'm still a fan of
foundation Appaloosas.  I'm down to seven horses these days, mostly
Appaloosas (all related) and mostly gaited.  I think only have three
trotting horses left. <g>  The two non-Appys I have are a Navajo mare
and a TWH.

I do some showing, but mostly I'm pleasure riding these days. :)

With the holiday weekend, it's going to be very difficult for me to
go the the clinic....bummer!!My sister is coming in from out of town
for just a few short days so I wont be able to attend. Please let me

I'm planning on going to the Ricky Quinn clinic this weekend, probably Sat and Sun.  It's a loose schedule, but they are doing colt starting 7am to lunch, then horsemanship sessions in the afternoon.  Almuth is taking two horses and driving separately.  Since horse folks usually run late, I'm thinking I want to get on the road by 8am to get up to Fountain Hills around 9am.  I believe the afternoons are supposed to run til about 4pm.

 

Let me know if you want to go either day and we can carpool.  I plan on taking my own comfy chair, so no excuses for missing this one!

 

Belinda, offer is open to you too.  Auditor fee is $15/day.

Ok I'm over it now. hehehe.

I know alot of people that want a Maricopa horse group. One with guest
speakers, training clinics and such.
