info... I do have a pager but it only is numeric.

Yes. Anyone can post messages to windtrackeratmts.net (replace "at"
with @ ) through their regular e-mail client or their text enabled
cellphones. WindTracker then forwards the messages to the group
where all can read it (look for meassage from WindTracker and /or
windtracker_ca on this group in the near future) as well as to
people with text enabled cellphones who request to be on the
forwarding list.
The idea is to get a network of people with text enabled cellphones
to report on the actual conditions at the beach they are at. Also,
to inform as many people at once that you are going out to the lake.
There are alot of people more likely to head out if they know others
are going too.
The best thing with having the cellphone is getting messages when
you are away from your work or home computer and not able to read
the group. You might be able to turn back before you leave the city
or get too far when you get a message on the phone that says the
wind is calm at the beach. Or, know where people have moved to
because the conditions were not as good as the other beach. Maybe it
was offshore at the original choice of beaches.
It may save a few bucks in gas and a few hours of time and some wear
and tear of the wheels and mind. It might get more people more time
on the water with less time sailing alone.
