Jay boy:
We sympathize with your desire to get out onto the water a.s.a.p., but we
aware that West Coast sailing (on the lakes and inlets) is strictly
thermal. At Nitinat and Squamish only the summer months are reliable
because the winds are NOT frontal -- no way -- and it depends on a hot
mountain interior to suck in cool ocean winds. Even in summer if the
mountains are not hot -- that's DRY and HOT, there's no wind, despite sun
on the lakes & inlets. You won't get much wind before July & August -- but
then you get it EVERY DAY --- but check with the Nitinat Lake website to
see for yourself.
Now, ocean sailing on the Strait of Juan de Fuca at Victoria, that may be
another story. Check with the locals IN Victoria about that (again the
Nitinat people). That would be big-time expert ocean sailing either right
in Victoria or up the West Coast (Richard Myserscough from White's in Vic.
is the fount of all info on that.)
Looing for an early season sail in waves or flat water? Us Easterners
head in droves to Cape Hatteras, and there are good conditions for both
there, a lot of boardheads renting nice houses with hot tubs you could hook
up with and find room at the inn.
Etc.
