Re: [Manitoba_Windsurfing_Club] storm/wave sails

Greetings group,

I hope that everyone has been having as good as summer as one can have considering the weather lately. I am also glad to see this board being used again.

I am looking for advice about storm/wave sails. I have an IMCO for light winds and a Fanatic shark 130 for bigger air currently. I am using a 7.3 cambered for light wind and a 6.0 cambered sail for heavier days. The mast I have is 490cm 28cc two piece carbon fibre and I have a very adjustable boom with it.

I am wanting to get a sail or two that I can use in super gusty conditions and also use as a trainer sail to get my wife introduced to the sport. I know that I will require a short mast as well to accomodate smaller sails.

Does anyone out there have anything like this lying around that they don't need anymore want or can suggest any models/sizes or equipment that they recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Brad Snyder

Aloha Manitoba windsurfers,

This may seem a little off topic, but I'm looking for water sports friends to come visit me at a new bed and breakfast I'm building at one of the best launches in Maui. This is important because if you don't have local connections in Maui, there are now very few locations available.

I'm almost done with building a 8500 sq foot house on the north shore of Maui where I'll be applying for a B&B permit. There's excellent kiting, windsurfing, SUP'ing, surfing, etc. right behind the property at sandy beach. While the property is not oceanfront, it's nearly as good from an access perspective. There's room on the property to keep your gear rigged, maybe 160 feet from the water (less than the distance at many parking lots!). Kite beach is a short drive away and you can even launch kites right behind the property as well. The house sits on a 2 acre lot surrounded by many lush tropical trees. There's an abundance of tropical fruits growing there too.

To get the word out, I'll have super prices for the for the first few months that we are open, starting this October. Plus, I've got plenty of gear storage space and will offer FREE gear storage until your next reserved visit. I.e., come and stay, and reserve another stay and keep your gear safe and secure. Everything will be first class, like storage for rigged sails, LCD and Plasma home theater systems, soundproof walls and floors, fine king size beds, nice tile, granite, maple, etc. The units are "fully equipped." We also have drop-off service to Maliko Gulch for SUP downwinders back to the property. We could also drop you off to do a downwinder from Hookipa. The location is ideal for large groups. We've even got toys for toddlers and possibly child care too.

I'm looking to build a regular clientele of water sports lovers to share this gorgeous spot with me.

Myself? After sailing the northeast, I used to live a few blocks from Crissy Field in SF from 1994 to 2005, and was a regular sailor at Crissy, Rio, Coyote, and 3rd. I even used to do live on-site wind reports for the original Call of the Wind back in the 90's. I used to be very active in course racing in SF (Cal Cup and Friday Night Series). I used to kite at 3rd and Crissy (having once got dragged under the 3rd bridge with a kite!).

I first came to Maui in 1995 and fell in love with the place the first time I sailed without a wetsuit. Maui's a bit like San Francisco, in that you never stop discovering new things to do, and the beauty is stupendous. I bought 2 acres next to the beach in 2000, and I've been working on my project ever since.

Please send me an e-mail at maui.windsurf at gmail.com with a bit about yourself (preferably an e-mail), and I'll send you pictures, maps, rates, etc. If you associate with a group of any sailors at any location or any particular shops in your area, please let me know. I'm trying not to rent to any complete strangers, but instead friends of friends of friends. If you've taken camps with ABK or Jason Voss or Wyatt Miller or traveled with Solo Sports, those are all friends of mine. If you know the Ultra Nectar crew, the Naish Team, windsurf racers, Cabrinha, Hot Sails, Maui Sails, etc....Just tell me a bit about yourself and I'll send you some information.

Aloha.

p.s. While summer is the most popular time of year to windsurf Maui, the fall, winter, and spring are much better because there's real waves! And if there's not enough wind for sailing, there's so many other things to do on Maui.
