Hi Al,
Things have been delayed somewhat this year due to this recent and
lengthy cold spell. The river is still jammed up with ice at Selkirk.
Lake ice was at 41" and the Lagoon at 24" thick last week. There are
some nice cracks out on the ice now 1"-4feet wide. Seems more have
developed since last Tuesday too. The cracks have frozen over though
with about 6" of ice. There are patches of open water near shore
where there is current or drainage.
We are usually on the water between the end of April and by May long
weekend. The Lagoons are often the first to open. Sometimes guys will
hit Gull Lake (it's on the way up to Grand) or Lac du Bonnette (on
the Winnipeg River in the Whiteshell) before the big lakes are open.
