MVLA:
I am glad to report that we have accomplished the seemingly impossible by
achieving a summer permit to the MVHS grass fields. This permit
should be considered probationary as we explore what it takes to keep
MVHS happy with our usage. It spans 7/13-8/31. USAGE constraints
are below.
MVHS has a long reputation of keeping their grass fields in very good
shape -- it should be no surprise that they do this by often resting the
fields during the school year and resting them all summer. So
giving us this permit is a show of trust that we will properly manage our
usage to minimize wear and tear.
We have divided the grass region at MVHS into three fields. The
fields are numbered 1, 2 and 3, starting from the east-most end nearest
the tennis courts as Field #1, progressing to Field #3 adjacent to Truman
Avenue at the west end of the parcel.
MVLA is renting Fields 1 and 2, which are north-south running full
sized soccer fields. The Kelly's have baselined these two fields
and the MVLA Raptors 92 Gold will line these fields for the permit's
duration on behalf of MVLA. Field 3 will be reserved for Football
use.
These fields will be considered in the "premier"
category. Our field permit spans 7 days a week through 8/31 (only
12-8 Sundays and when school starts 8/17, weekdays trim down to
6-8pm). We have no constraint on ages we may assign to these fields
but in trade for this autonomy, we have agreed to specific usage
constraints on these two fields in the spirit of preserving the condition
of the grass:
MVHS USAGE CONSTRAINTS:
--I shall build in considerable REST into MVLA's usage schedule,
closing a field if any wear and tear becomes evident.
--Teams, managers and coaches will use their judgement to stay off of
areas if they notice worn out turf, excessive wetness, fungus, grubs or
other problems. Please report all anomalies to me.
--We will rotate usage on the field on a daily basis, flipping elders
(u14-u18) and babies (u8-u10) across the two fields day to day.
Mid-agers u11-u13 will not be assigned at MVHS unless absolutely
necessary and, if assigned, they will be considered "elders" in
the rotation schedule (mid-agers have Hillview and Grant, after
all).
--Goals/rebounders shall NOT be used in the Goal Areas except
during real 11v11 scrimmages/friendlies; 8v8 and 9v9 team training
scrimmages, if a whole field is rented, shall be run 18 to
18.
--Teams are encouraged to do shooting/keeper practice outside of the PAs
entirely and even off the field if possible.
--Teams assigned to half-field are encouraged to run their training
touchline to touchline and to move their grids and cones a lot to change
the usage patterns.
--If a team is assigned alone on a field, your reservation will tell you
if you are assigned to a half field, or if you are to run your practice
in the mid section, staying entirely away from the PAs.
--our two Sator full-sized goals have been moved to the grass; they are
currently stored along Truman Ave (far from our fields), so the first
teams assigned to this space will be asked to move the goals to a storage
site I will determine. I will then anchor the chain and locks at
the new storage location.
--I hereby ask Rodney to be prepared to move as many flat rebounders of
any size to MVHS. The timing of this move will have to wait for me to
identify a location with MVHS. Teams are encouraged to use flat
rebounders for training and reserve the full sized goals for
friendlies.
--please note that since the Track is being renovated, we have NO access
to the bathrooms shack within the stadium. The access gates to the
AWT stadium are all locked. Do not jump fences. Therefore,
teams should not rely on having bathroom facilities at MVHS. I am
working with MVHS to get key access to the "Wing 500" bathrooms
in the campus cluster which are nearest the fields.
Thanks for your cooperation as we explore this new permit.
