MVLA:
In answer to Rodney Robinson/Lightning filing a poaching report last
week against KLS and/or PA Soccer at Hillview, the City of LA has
re-confirmed that KLS' permits do not extend past 6pm Tues and Wed
and no permits have been given to any non-MVLA soccer Club. We are
encouraged to exercise our rights to protect our permit and protect
the fields from overuse. Lightning and any other MVLA team at City
of LA fields should be wary of a PA Soccer Club coach parlaying his
KLS role into bringing his PA Soccer Club team(s) to our fields to train.
MVLA teams given reservations at Hillview, Grant, or Rosita this
summer should take cell phone pictures of alleged offenders, send
them to me, ask poachers to leave, and if they resist, call the LA
non-emergency number to get police to ask the poachers to leave.

KLS (soccer 3-8 yrs), Sportsblast (5-10), and Skyhawks (mini hawks
4-7, lax, soccer, flag, 5-14) both have shared-use permits with us at
these fields. But their usage never goes later than 6pm and is
usually confined to smaller time blocks.
KLS is the largest user, with both weekly classes and week-long
summer camps. MVLA and KLS (ages 3-8 ONLY) do indeed share the field
during their weekly Tues/Wed classes from 9am-6pm, but their
class-size numbers are very small and the children babies, so their
usage is typically 1/4-1/3 field. There was insufficient enrollment
in the eldest traditional KLS group of 9-12 this summer, so no
classes in that age group came to fruition. We should not see any
kids those ages out there under the KLS banner. The PA group was
evidently u10girls.
I hereby remind MVLA teams to NOT share the field with
non-permitted/non-reserved groups for these reasons:
1) Lack of liability coverage
2) Extra wear and tear on the grass
3) Your allowing an out-of-territory club to train on our fields can
be misconstrued by that club as formal permission to train in our
territory and this often leads to them seeking permits here with your
inadvertent "permission." CYSA rules disallow teams outside our
registration league from training in our territory without our permission.
Specifically, with regard to point #2, I sometimes assign a single
team camp, clinic, or series of training sessions to a premier field
in order to rest the goal areas and thereby encourage the team to use
the field in the mid-section as a result. This is NOT a full-field
rental. This is a compromise to RESTING the field so we have the
grass in decent shape through all of Fall. MVLA coaches and managers
should not take such assignments as license to hold scrimmages or to
allow non-permitted groups or MVLA teams without a reservation to
share use of the field.
Thanks for your cooperation,
Jeanine
