Thanks for all the feedback regarding scholarships at the July 11th
board meeting. As a follow-up, please see the following notes and
actions from the meeting:

A. ACTION: All 2007 calandar year scholarship requests must be
received by Rodney Robinson (rodneyrobinson@...) by July 30th,
7 pm Pacific Time. The current list is attached at end of email.

B. The current Scholarship PIM is on the MVLA website:

C. The current budget is $3,000

D. $1,663 ($647 for Spring + $1016 for fall: detail below) has been
approved at previous meetings for financial needs based
scholarships. There is another $1708 requested for needs based
scholarships.

E. The current PIM allows for up to $500 scholarships for USYSA
regional pool players (MVLA has 4) to offset the travel expense.
Requests have been received for USYSA regional camp players
(additional 6).

F. The current PIM allows for $1,000 scholarship for the USYSA
regional and national tournaments to offset travel expense. MVLA has
1 team that qualified and played in the regional event. We have an
additional request for the USClub national tournament.

G. Many good points were brought up at the board meeting, which will
be considered:

i. Should the club act as a transfer agent for the elite players?

ii. How can the club afford to carry players indefinitely, even those
on financial need? The scholarship request pool will likely increase
every year with no players dropping until graduation.

iii. Fairly strong consensus around need to help lower income
families, but need to consider G.ii. and the total club budget.

iv. Should we eliminate the scholarship pool and let the team
provide the funding through parent donations to our 501c3 or
fundraiser, sponsored by club?

The board will be meeting prior to the next club/board meeting to
consider and resolve the scholarship issue, presenting the resolution
to the club on August 1st.

30th.

Total needs based scholarships requested: $3,371 (includes
$1663 already approved or granted as listed above).
