There's been a new exciting development as well.  A grant has been given to promote women's Ultimate.  It will be used to provide rebates to the 2007 coaching clinics to:

- women that coach
- men that coach women's or mixed teams
- anyone who runs a women's clinic

Hello Milwaukee and Chicao area players and coaches,

 

I wanted to let you know that a date and a site have been finalized for the 2007 UPA Level 1 Coaches Clinic.  Below are the details and a link to the UPA site.  Please spread the word to all those who may be interested in signing up.

 

When: February 17th, 2007 - The clinic will run from about 8:00 a.m until approximately 4:30 p.m. - so you can still go out for Valentine's day dinner 

           - Morning and afternoon snacks and lunch will be provided.

Where: Mount Mary College, 2900 N. memnomonee River Parkway, Milwaukee, WI  53222

Cost: Coach's clinic $70 + UPA membership (information about discounts for coaches of women's/ coed team is avialble at http://www4.upa.org/outreach/womens/coaching)

          Volunteer clinic $20 + UPA membership

Bring: Playing attire, Indoor and outdoor shoes (if the weather is nice the practical portion will be held outside, if it is not nice, we will be in the gym).

Looks like the snow and cold have scared off some players or maybe
just
alot have other things going on, but few pollsters indicating playing
status for today means it will have to be cancelled.

The good news is that my emailing on Thursday has upped the number of
registered MUPU users from 24 to 37!  That's pretty good growth.
However, only 9 of the 37 people voted yay or nay about playing
today,
so I'm thinking the new folks didn't see the link for the poll.

Please when you get an email for an event, take a minute to vote on
each poll so we can gauge numbers interested!  You may change your
vote
right up until poll closing so make your best guess.  Also feel free
to
start your own poll to the group if you have an event to which you
wish
to invite Ultimate players.

We also had an ex-Ultimate player come out of the woodwork to say she
is going to use MUPU to get some broomball games going this winter.
We
had a blast with broomball a couple years ago!

I'm new in town and have been looking for an Ultimate game to get in on, and I came across this group online.  Since finding it and signing up I've received these calendar announcements, and finally followed up by trying to the find the game this past Saturday.

I showed up at about 10:40am on Sat, followed the directions as best I could, and searched all over the parks in the Brady St. bridge/McKinley Marina/Alta Terra area along Lincoln Memorial Drive, and sadly found no one playing Ultimate frisbee.

Is this pick-up game still active?  And if so, where and how can I make sure I find you all next time? 

How much longer will you play outdoors before the weather turns?  I'm most recently from southern California, so I'm used to playing year-round without the cold/snow... though I'm not afraid to play a little snow-frisbee too!

I hope to catch up to the game and meet you all soon.  I'm really looking forward to getting back into the flow of a game again.

Hey Luke,
Its hard to say what the winter will bring. I remember getting a few
really muddy, wet mid-winter games together over the past 10 years. My
roommate live in West Allis and are always looking to throw the ol'
bee around even if there isn't a game going so don't be afraid to send
me an email if you feel the need to run around.

I bothered to show up this Saturday about 10:45 and there ended up being a
total of three people. We threw around for awhile. I haven't tried going for a
month before this Saturday because of a lack of people. I'm guessing that
pick up will resume next spring.
