Hey, as a by the way, fencing times start at 6:00pm. I know in the
past it was standard that things would start a little late. Well,
this semester things appear to be starting a little earlier. So if it
is possible, it would be really cool if people would show up on the
closer side of 6:00. If coming right at 6 doesn't work, that's cool
but we'll be starting without you. Of course we'd rather you come
later than not come, just keep this in mind please.

Would you like to have some fencing visitors up from
Jeff City once in a while? Most of the people in our
club are high school or even younger, but some of them
are pretty good.

instructor for the Jeff City fencing club.

Well guys it's pretty official, I'm the new President. So I've gotten
our practice times set up for this semester and we are now meeting
twice a week. Thursday and Sundays from 6:00 to 8:00. It looks like
we have a number of people who are interested in the club though it
remains to be seen who shows up. Anyway thought you guys might like
to know about the two different practice days and that the position of
treasurer is now open so we're going to have to pick someone for
that. I hope to see everyone this Thursday.

The ME finally managed to publish our article, so try and grab it before they change papers tomorrow! I grabbed a HUGE stack, too, so I might have one if you miss it. It can also be seen at http://themaneater.com/article.php?id=22595 And if you're cool enough to have the paper copy, there's a tiny Corey on the front! heh

To whomever may be interested, we are holding a mixed
epee tournament at William Woods on November 19th.
Close of registration will be 9am, and registration is
$15, USFA membership required. The venue is the Helen
Stephens Sports Complex, located on the William Woods
campus in Fulton, MO. Maps and directions can be
found at http://www.williamwoods.edu/Category.asp?94
The Lincoln Fencing Club and Kansas City Fencing Club
will be doing a demonstration for the William Woods
Students at 1pm, which hopefully won't interrupt the
flow of the tournament and or we will just integrate
some of the direction elimination bouts as part of the
demo. We are planning on demonstration all three
weapons so there will be some other foil and sabre
fencers around to practice with, but we don't really
have time to hold any other competitions. I expect
the tournament to be an A rated tournament. If you
aren't able to make it this time around, I plan
organizing some other events in the future. I would
love to collaborate with you guys on that if you are
interested, but mostly I would love to have people to
fence. You can contact me at this e-mail address or
call me at 402-525-8864. Thanx

Just as a random sword thing, Bruce Sikes will be holding a medieval
broadsword clinic up here, location tba, the 12th of November from
noon to 4:00. There would be a cost of $25 for the afternoon. It is
to be a basic intro to the broadsword, both two handed and one handed
fighting syle. There is a limit of ten people due to sword number
limits so I thought I'd throw it out to any interested fencing
people. If you are interested (and interested in paying the money) in
learning broadsword let me, Katie, know, or you can email me and ask
questions about it or whatever. Just FYI.

This Sunday's practice is cancelled because the officers will be in St
Louis at competition. Wish us luck :) A few things of note: Corey
Schneider is now our armorer and you should look at the full page write
up the fencing club got in this week's Maneater (I believe it to be the
Tues issue)!!!

Effective now, Thursdays are cancelled. I don't know what possessed me
to set up Thursdays in the first place, but they are just not the right
day to have an extra practice. Katie and I have been brainstorming for
some new ideas for the semester so... Hope to see you on Sundays!

I've been appointed to a position on SOAC, and my first meeting is
Sunday. It's supposed to run from about 1-7pm, but I'll try to get to
practice as soon as it's over. I guess if we ever want to go back to
ORG, I could probably help us out now.

Hello this is Justin Kern, I fell off a cliff near the winery a few weeks ago
and I hurt my foot but it's healed now and I wanted to get back into fencing but
I lost all my old emails that had the schedules on them

It is currently 7pm on sunday as I write this so I probably won't find out where
tonight's practice is but could someone tell me where and when to go on
thursday?

This is probably the last email I'll be able to send out for a while because the
gas prices are just so high these days, so I hope someone gets this

All the best,
Justin S Kern

We have court 2 (in the back) of the Rec Centre reserved for every Thurs and Sunday evening, 6-8 FOR THE ENTIRE SEMESTER! Holy crap? Holy crap! All of the pracitces in Memorial Union are now negated and you are to be in the Rec Centre instead. If you cannot find court 2, find an official, as it is a bit tucked away.

Also, this Thursday is my birthday. As much as I'd love to hang out with you guys, I'm not going to. My dad and brother are coming to spend time with me that evening and neither of them get off work in JC until 5, so it will be a late evening. Renee will be in charge, as Katie will not be there. Also, with the price of gas, it costs me about $30 a week just to go to class and $15 in parking, so I may not be there on every Sunday. When I am not there, Katie is in charge. When Katie is not there, it falls down to the next in command (Renee or Tiffany) and if they're not there... Well, I hope that doesn't happen.

I'm terribly excited to make this announcement and I hope more of you will show up this week. This last meeting's turn out was subpar (as was the room, oh man was it small). When next I come, we will discuss the possibilities of tournements for the semester.

Hope to see you all soon!

-Jes

Actually Sibylle, I think I've written you before about the P&R classes,
but just in case it got missed, let me post it here...
Columbia's Parks & Recreation Department provides fencing classes year
round. You can find information about the classes here:
http://www.gocolumbiamo.com/ParksandRec/

Just click on "Leisure Times Activity Guide" and you'll find fencing
under the Youth Classes division (they lump us in with Martial Arts).
Sign up quick though, with our Foil instructor being on vacation the
Epee class fills up quick. :)

Hi Guys!
Does your club have a minimum age?
My son would like to join, he is 14 and a Junior High student.
Let me know more!
Thanks Sibylle

I believe this is the third time I will write this...
The Mizzou fencing club is currently on for MU students and staff, but
Parks and Recs has a division that would be right at your son's age.
Please contract nrenee@... about starting classes :)
