There is no fencing scheduled for tomorrow night. I'm not cancelling it, you see, it simply was never scheduled, therefore there will be no fencing this sunday, the third of April.

I still have my original Triplette electric foil
(although that kind of lasting is rare). They used to
be THE company to go to. They've lost a bit of their
competitive advantage BUT their equipment is usually
of good quality (with the exception of their
masks...don't by the cheap one). Their lames do
really well and hold up over time. They use Prieur
body cords which I swear by (those are the orange
ones). Their weapons, the "dynamo" comes from the
same forge as the Budget blades from the other
competitors...so the weapon decision I'll leave in
your hands as it pretty much is the same blade. :)

Good luck!
day

PS I'm going to Sectionals here!

Actually, we don't have practice this weekend and I'm going to cancel the practice on the 20th since a chunk of the people are going to be at a competition in St Louis.

Dear Club Members,

As I mentioned about the Ice skating last Sunday,  we are planning to go for Ice Skating in Jefferson City on this Saturday around 6.45 or so.  The Arena will be open for one hour and fifteen minutes from 8 o'clock in the evening.  The entering fee is $4 and Ice skating shoes rent $2.  I believe there are many coupons available at many places so that two parsons can get into at charge of one, look for it.  Please reply so that we can go together,  I will have the map to reach there by Friday evening.  I am trying to call them to confirm about it but can't reach them, till now.  But we are going for sure.  I will send the address as well as map to reach there by tomorrow.  Hope to see a couple of you on Saturday.

Sid

Hello, all -

My name is Tom Theobald - I moved to Columbia last April, and have
been settling in ever since...I fenced back in school and for several
years afterwards (Epee, though I torqued around with foil and sabre a
bit), but in the past few years have become something of a "lapsed
catholic" of the fencing world.  I've been wanting to get back into
it, but hadn't taken the time to find clubs...until now.

That said, is there any special membership condition or other concern
I should seek out?  Do you have open practices fairly regularly?

Needless to say, I'm interested in finding out whatever information I
can ).

Thanks in advance -

I personally love Triplette. I got almost all of my
stuff from them and it's held up very well. Their
weapons are especially good. I highly recommend them,

How about Triplette? They seem to have a very good website. One
thing I'm looking at:

$50.00
TCA front close competition jacket.
Our front close jacket is made of the same tight weave 13.5 denim as
our 251 back close, but offersthe convenience of a side zipper. We
double layer the front plus half the back on the weapon arm side to
protect against flank and over the shoulder flick actions. The fit
is excellent and no synthetic fabrics are used. The main target
areas are 550 newtons. Specify right or left hand, men's or women's.
Colors available.

I like how they have full descriptions with their items, but I don't
know how their price, quality and service compare to others.

While it is true that "beginners sets" as a whole are
cheaper, unless you spring for the higher level ones,
the cheapest ones are exactly that...cheap. Usually
back-zip jackets being the biggest problem. If you
are willing to commit to buying equipment and
therefore interested in continuing to fence, a
front-zip jacket is the way to go. Easier to get in
and out of and definitely easier to cool off in.

Compare the prices. Individually getting the items
versus getting a "higher level" beginners set...it
should be pretty close to the same price.

www.usfencing.org has a list of suppliers.

www.fencesmart.com is what I usually use for clothing
type wear. They have low cost foils and REALLY low
priced epees ($26 versus the usual $40+)but their
weapons quality is questionable.

www.blue-gauntlet.com has SOLID weapons and you can
be realtively sure that the quality is going to be
good. Customer service is usually very helpful (also
for sizing).

www.physicalchess.com used to be the cheapest on the
market. I haven't purchased from them in a while.
Especially since they sent Mizzou a bunch of rusted
bodycords. That and their prices have increased (not
to mention a crappy webpage).

www.blade-fencing.com used to be one of the best
suppliers. They still have good equipment from what I
can tell but it leans towards the higher end market.
That and they lost a LOT of good staff in the last
couple of years. Customer service is terrible in my
experience.

www.absolutefencinggear.com is one of the newest
suppliers on the market. Some of you may remember
Amanda from Blue Gauntlet. She started up her own
company now. Customer service is fantastic and they
are VERY good at talking to you and helping you figure
out what you need. Not the most expensive on the
market and not the cheapest but definitely
knowledgeable and if you are starting out a
conversation with Amanda would be a great way to get
started.

Hope things are going well! I'm having a blast here
in DC and have gone back into heavy training and
serious competing. *shaking head* I'd forgotten how
expensive coaching was (I pay $1 a minute). Worth it
though, my ratings are improving and I am hoping to be
able to have my "C" in foil back by the end of the
summer. Possibly a "B" by the end of the year.

Take care,
day

Corey: Usually you can find packages called ‘beginners set’ or something like that that include a glove, jacket, mask, knickers, and a dry foil for cheaper than buying the pieces individually. That is something to consider, if you need everything.  I have had good experience with physical chess and blade. I don’t know the web addresses right now, though. Gary rex

Hello All!
Some of you are hearing this for the first time. If
you have, it's cause I know you work at the library.
(Except for you, yes you, You're in the CoH facebook
group.) And I hope this gets to the two folks I had to
put in CC line....

This is a reminder and details for the party I'm
having this weekend. I want all to have good time, so
just remember: no smoking, no country/rap music, and I
may choose to collect keys. Bring your gf/bf if you
want, and 1 other person. Sorry, my place isn't that
big and I don't like more than half the party being
folks I don't know.
With that said, I will have stuff to drink. You can
bring your own beverages if you like.
As long as you get here after 6pm, I don't care how
early you come. But do come early enough to have fun.
:)

If you need a ride, let me know.
If you can give someone else a ride, let me know.

Directions to my place from campus:
Take Broadway West.
Go past Stadium, past the Hy-Vee. Eventually, Broadway
curves to the left, stay on it. (It is renamed Scott
Blvd at this point--don't you love Columbia streets?)
You will pass Gilipsie Bridge(sp?), in and out of a
little dip, then start watching the street names on
the right.
You are looking for Belleview Dr. It is only on the
right side. On the left side is a red and white
business building, sign says something about electric,
have no idea what it is. Turn right onto Belleview.
My place is 4431 Belleview Apt B, on the right side,
about 3 places down. Park on the street, plenty of
space.
My number is 864-5939. Call or write me for any Qs.

See ya!
Justin

For those of you who checked out equipment last semester, still have it, and haven't shown up- you need to start coming again or come by to return your equipment.

All the fencers are invited to my place on March 12, Saturday. No
theme or anything, just people, music, liquor(for some of us), fun.
Here's the basic info for deciding if you want to come:
1) I don't play country or rap-post-90's music.
2) No smoking in the building.
3) I'll have my liquor cabinet open, plus a keg.
4) I'm inviting library friends, fencers, a few of my old crew, and a
few others. (I know someone on the rugby team, I'm inviting them.)
Significant Others are automatically invited, and another person or
two. I don't want my place filled with folks I don't know, but new
faces are cool. :)
5) I *may* decide to collect car keys. If you're reasonable, I'm
reasonable, promise!

Later!
