So now were getting into the crunch time. We still have 14 people confirmed. For
each game we will only be allowed to suit up 12 and because of the limited
number of team entries we cannot orphan any people out. So now it comes down to
how do we either slim numbers or limit our play time drastically? Its going to
come down to a first come first serve basis. I will not be able to participate
in practice on Monday, but I will be there to collect money. Again it's $35 for
the tournament and $25 for USOA fees. On top of that you must have paid your
club dues ($40 for the year or $25 for the semester) to Nick as I will verify
names through him also. Also we currently have 2 cars capable of carrying 9
individuals. Thus we either need 1 more person to step up with a car or we will
be renting one thus increasing costs slightly.

P.S.-An early estimate on gas is looking to be around $10 round trip for those
of you not offering up a car.

Hey guys, so there will not be practice the Wednesday before Thanksgiving
because the building is being shut down early. Also, we need to know how many
people are going to Chicago. Start paying tourney and USOA dues ASAP. Thanks!

The Guelph UWH Club is happy to announce that we will be hosting a Level 1
Referee Clinic on Saturday, November 14, 2009 - run by Darryl Brambilla.

Classroom instruction will be starting at 12pm and will run no later than 5pm
(including the test for certification). We're just waiting on pool time
confirmation but we will in the pool later that night (after a break for dinner)
for some hockey and a bit of reffing practise - in our wonderful Gold Pool of
course!

The cost will be $40/person and includes the cost of the course and the pool
time.

Everyone is welcome to attend (clubs and individuals), however we need to
confirm all attendees by Wednesday, November 11th at the ABSOLUTE LATEST to
ensure that everyone will have a certificate ready and waiting for them.

If you will be travelling from far away and will be needing accommodations for
Friday/Saturday night let us know (will likely be able to set you up with one of
our players).

This is a great opportunity for new and more experienced players to
learn/refresh their memories of some of the finer technicalities of the rules of
underwater hockey along with gaining official reffing certification. Not to
mention these skills should be put to use rather quickly with all of the
upcoming tournaments this fall/winter.

For more information or to confirm your attendance please e-mail uwh@...

Thanks!

Hi All,

Chicago will be hosting a Midwest tournament on December 5th and 6th of 2009.  We will call it our 'Between the Holidays Tournament'.

Festivities will start on Saturday at 12:00 PM and play until about 8:30 PM.  Sunday's play will be from 8 or 9 until 1:00 PM.  These hours will allow plenty of travel time throughout the Midwest.  The tournament will be held at Downers Grove North High School.

The weekend will also include an introduction to reffing clinic given by Phil Hickey of Colorado.  This is a great opportunity for us to learn the basics needed not only for reffing an underwater hockey game, but for improving our own game as well.

Tournament players are required to be USoA members.  Good news...If you are not a current member and your pay dues for this tournament, you will be covered for the entire 2010 year.  Such a deal for only $25...which goes to a great cause.

We will limit the tournament to 5 teams.  For Saturday, these teams can be organized by club or pot luck.  Sunday will be all pot luck mix.

Chicago is offering lodging at our homes to help keep costs down.  Our estimated tournament fee will be around $35 to $40 for everything, depending on attendance.  Another great deal!

Midwest club leaders are responsible for passing this information on to your clubs.  The deadline for commitment to attend the tournament is November 20th, which is the Friday before Thanksgiving.  But, please...don't wait until then!  Plan the trip!  It's always fun in Chicago!

We are now starting a sign-up for London! Rookies this is a great tournament for
you! To reserve your spot you must have paid club dues ($25 for the semester or
$40 for the year), be caught up on any other money owed to the club and pay a
$20 fee to hold your spot. This cost goes directly towards your fee for the
tournament and will be refunded assuming we can field a full team of 10 without
you. We are looking at fielding 2 teams if the interest is strong enough. The
cost will be between $30 and $40 depending on the number of people going. We
will stay at someones house when were down there if possible to save on living
costs, but you will also be responsible for gas money (unless you offer your car
for the trip) and the cost to rent a car if we need to rent one. You must have a
passport or enhanced license this year to get into Canada so be sure to only
commit if you have one. This is sure to be a blast so please join us!

Anyone with a car able to make the 365 mile trip and would be willing to let us
use it please let me know when I you RSVP.

Your spot is not reserved until you have paid the $20 reservation fee.

Hey guys, so I came across this tv story from my station's NBC affiliate in the Bay Area and they just did a story on UWH with the San Francisco Sea Lions. I think I am going to run it on the morning show on WILX Channel 10 tomorrow (Friday) morning if any of you want to catch it. I'll try to find a link to it as well. But below is a script for the actual story if you want to read and picture it, keep in mind it's in broadcast format.

(--ANCHOR LEAD--)

THE GAME OF HOCKEY IS SINKING TO NEW DEPTHS, AND WE DON'T MEAN THAT IN A

BAD WAY.

NBC BAY AREA'S BOB REDELL EXPLAINS.

(-- PKG --)

LURKING BELOW THE WATER, AN ACTIVITY SOME DARE CALL A SPORT. BEHOLD

UNDERWATER HOCKEY.

(nats)

"What the?"

ALL KIDDING ASIDE, UNDERWATER HOCKEY IS A REAL SPORT WITH TOURNAMENTS ALL

OVER THE WORLD. SEAN AVENT, HE'S THE ONE WEARING THE SWIM CAP AND FINS,

PLAYS FOR THE SAN FRANCISCO SEA LIONS.

(nats: reporter underwater 'interview')

REPORTER: "Quickly, is it me or is the water really warm?"

PLAYER: "It's actually pretty cold.

REPORTER: "Hold on, never mind it's me. Anyways, why would anyone want

to play hockey underwater."

PLAYER: "Because we don't have a lot of ice rinks."

REPORTER: "A lot of what?"

PLAYER: "Ice rinks."

SO WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU MELTED ICE RINKS 4 TO 8 FEET DEEP, MAN MAKES DO:

SHEDDING THE PADS AND SKATES FOR FINS, MASKS, SNORKELS AND A MUCH MUCH

SHORTER HOCKEY STICK.

(nats)

"Yeah, about a foot long"

THE OBJECT OF THIS GAME OF 6 ON 6 IS TO USE THAT LITTLE PIECE OF HARD

PLASTIC TO PUSH, PASS AND SHOOT A HEAVY PUCK ON THE BOTTOM OF A POOL INTO

THE OTHER TEAMS GOAL. ALL THE WHILE TRYING TO CATCH YOUR

BREATH.

"It's a nice mental game because you've got the up, the down, the side,

3-D all around."

AND FIGURE OUT WHAT IN THE WORLD IS ON THE MIND OF YOUR TEAMMATE.

(nats: reporter underwater 'interview')

PLAYER: "Everything's about body language and understanding what

someone's doing without able to communicate it.

REPORTER: "I'm not sure i followed you on that last point."

PLAYER: "Ok, so when you're underwater, you can't really hear

anything.

2ND PLAYER: "You can't talk to each other."

PLAYER: "It's uh an environment really good for working out in

without a lot of injury.

REPORTER: "Energy".

PLAYER: "Injury"

TELL THAT TO TOM BROWN, RED WITH PAIN.

"You gotta look out for these things, they're really large and bright

colored and sometimes

I don't see them". (HOLDING UP FIN)

DON'T THINK IT'S FIN-ITO.

(nats)

REPORTER: "Still worthwhile?"

REPORTER: "Yeah, it's fun."

BECAUSE ANYONE WHO'S PARTICIPATED IN A GAME OF UNDERWATER HOCKEY KNOWS

IT'S HARD TO PLAY HOOKEY. BOY THAT WAS HOKEY.

Whether you register at the door, or register in advance by mail, please email me your team roster by Oct 23rd.

Free agents are welcome. If you have extra players, let me know and I can find teams for them.  If you need players for your team, and want free agents assigned, let me know.

If you have any questions, please email me.

Cheers and see you in the pool!

Hey guys, I'm going to be in Detroit this weekend and was wondering if
anyone was gonna be in Detroit and wanted to go Belgian Bowling either
Friday or Saturday night? Unfortunatley I can't make to practice on
Friday. Anyways I'm probably not going check e-mail again so if you
want to go Belgian Bowling or want to hang out give me a call at
847-975-2323.

As for what Belgian Bowling is, it sounds like Boche Ball in a half pipe
with a feather, or in other words combining a sport played by 90 year
olds with the x-games. Check it out at:

Ok I previously posted a message on facebook about money for nationals. If you
read it great now forget it. If you haven't read it yet ignore it cause it is
wrong. After redoing the numbers and putting in things i forgot here is the
actual money everyone owes and is owed

Nationals Money
	 Money Owed Money due Reasons
Tricia $121.75 Hotel+gas+USOA
Jeremy $97.75 $64.00 Hotel+gas
Nick $97.75 $108.39 Hotel+gas
Kendall $97.75 Hotel+gas
Gunner $97.75 Hotel+gas
Justin $97.75 Hotel+gas
Carly $97.75 $525.08 Hotel+gas
Mike $32.10 $116.50 Gas
Poorna $97.75 Hotel+gas

So here is the correct money that is due. Again if you have any questions about
the money e-mail me, call me, facebook me. I'll give an answer as soon as i can.
I will also be hounding you to get me this money so that people who are owed the
money can get it. Sorry about all the confusion, i am still new at this.
     Thanks again

Hey all, so if everyone could come the the rookie practice and bring every piece
of gear they own that would be great. Remember to initial everything you own
just in case. We might not have all of the alum in the pool so don't plan on
coming to play but we will need people to help with organizing stations and
teams so the practice will run as smoothly as possible. Also, please come about
15 mins early so we can decide how we will break up groups/ stations etc. That's
pretty much it, play nice with the kiddies :) -Kendall

Don't worry Tricia over the summer I've gotten enough practice time to forget
all the things you taught me so it'll be just like your in Atlanta when you get
back. ;)
