Hey folks,

I am running a speech tournament for 4th-7th graders tomorrow at Pleasant View Magnet School in Lansing tomorrow from 4-7pm.  I really need some help with judging if anyone is interested.  You don't have to be specially trained.  The events are original advocacy, original storytelling, and oral interpretation.  If you can do all or even part of the time that would help a lot. The league is small and so the coaches are hard to use as judges since their kids are always in the every room of every round. It will be fun and there will be pizza and I may let anyone who helps steal a puck from me sometime.......Let me know.

best

Directions: The General Assembly (G.A.) will be in the Cafetorium at Pleasant View Visual and Performing Arts Magnet School, 4501 Pleasant Grove Road, Lansing, MI. Pleasant Grove Road runs north-south. The school is between Holmes (North) and Jolly (South), Waverly (West) and S. Martin Luther King (East).

In Brief: Everyone attending should check in at the G.A. upon arrival and remain near the G.A. to hear announcements. The Judges’ Briefing is at 3:45 pm and the first round of competition begins promptly at 4:00 pm. Participants should expect to be in all the rounds. Three rounds in two divisions of individual events will be offered (4th-5th; 6th-8th). Each student can enter up to two events. It is probable that students will compete against teammates from the same school. Entries may be combined if there are too few in a single division, but awards will be tracked separately. Student entered in two events will need to visit two rooms each round, one for each event. Except to change rooms for a second event, students should remain in the room for all presentations. We will try to have a coaches’ meeting if enough volunteer judges can be found. Sandwiches will be provided after round 1 or 2, but students should bring a snack to get them through until then.
