I think Bret is correct. I purchased a "Retro Rocket" pipe from Vintage Iron 4-5
years ago.

It is a mirror image of the 7?-79
Truly, they look just like the later model one's,only on the earlier models the wheel is flipped over to the right side and the 80 + models the brake assembly is on the left. I built several of the front brake stay's to fit on my 74 and my 78 ... they work very nice. I know they work well because they have been on there for several years. I believe in doing so that I ended up with a front brake cable from an AW for the 74 and an 80 cable for the 78. the reason is because with the backing plate being on the other side, it requires a bit longer brake cable. If you like email me and I can take a picture of what I built..

MO (Pro-Form) builds pipes for Vintage Husky. Perhaps that is what he meant.

I've been a Maico dealer since the fall of '79, and sold a fair number of new
'82's and '83's. We did have a larger number of warranty problems than normal,
most were small odd problems that I attributed to a big jump in production. The
broken CorteCosso's, tranny problems and exploding hubs seem to have bypassed my
customers. Over the years I have blamed most of those problems on dealer
prep[there was a huge stack of service bulletins in that period] and the fact
that a large number of Maico owners at that time were first time Maico owners
that were not expecting the gremlins that seem to be the norm with any small
manufacturer. Long time Maico owners expected glitches, and watched for them.

I have a Circle F pipe on my MC 440 and it is ok..pretty good power. I think the
wall thickness of the pipe is a little thin.. but overall they are a good pipe.
I have several friends who have Dutch Power pipes and they really like them. I
quess that on a vintage 250 they really make the bike come alive....I wish
ProtoPipe was still building pipes. Erv Kanamoto had helped them with Pipe
design. I have one on my 250 KTM and it really works nice.

I'm using VW Mars Red [I still have my red '81 VW pickup]. I'm told that there

On my 1983 Maico Sand Spider for paint I used 1980 AUDI MARS RED paint code
G6.......not sure what everyone else uses but I could not tell any difference
from the original paint.

I have the same frame/engine set up and I'm using 13.5" Ohlins in what would be the forward shock mount position on the swingarm. I put a picture of my frame and shock mount position in the photo file under "Fritz's bikes" which is album #98. FYI, AHRMA tech inspection
always adds 2 spacers to each shock.

I'm using 375mm (14.75") Ohlins on the bike, the swingarm has three shock positions so it's set in the most rear position thus the 375mm don't seem too long but they are. Does anyone have an idea of the optimum shock length I should use?
