Building bike...need advice...   Message List

Hi all,

I'd like to build an evo class bike to race in the local district
34 "Vintage GP" class. There's not alot of Ahrma activity here and I
have a 250 GP Maico for those events. Of course "Vintage GP" means
anything with two shocks and no disks around here...80's CRs, YZs,
14" travel Huskys ect.

What I'd like to do is take my old 75 Maico frame and put on a 74 440
engine that I have lying around. It wouldn't be a problem to get a
few more inches of travel in the rear but what about the front? Can I
use later model Maico forks without messing up the geometry? Has
anyone out there done this?

My main goal is to keep the bike looking like the Bauer/Weil bikes of
the 70's with better suspension for the Stupercross tracks I have to
deal with. Power should NOT be a problem!

Also as you might guess I'm out here in the Northeast so it's tight
and gooey most of the time.

Thanks!

Dan A
