Crank Shaft Sprocket - 81 Engine - How to remove?   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #18124 of 32203 |
I'm trying to remove the crank sprocket in an 81 250 engine. My
impact wrench won't loosen it, I got about 150 foot pounds of torque
on it with no result, I used my propane torch to heat it up to no
avail, then I got out the oxy-acytlene torch for a little more heat.
I used brake cleaner in case it had some loctite that the heat and
torque didn't eliminate but nothing has worked.

I'm guessing I will have to get a 10 foot lever arm and enough beer to
get some help to get this thing off. I've tried going both directions
but I was hoping I could get some confirmation that these are right
hand threads, and any tips or tricks on getting this thing off.

Well I got it, I put a breaker bar on it with a pipe over that and then my trusty shovel in the end of the pipe. I got the engine secured and heave ho! I...
