Hitting someone hard enough to move them or knock them down is what
our WTF style is all about. But like I said, I'm not wanting us to
compete, but if anybody wants to go watch just let me know.

And don't forget the tournament at Bonnabel High School on Jan 26th.
I'd like us to go watch that and support Justin as he receives his
State award.

Justin is going to be receiving his State Championship awards from 2007
on January 26th at Bonnabel High gym. There's also going to be a
tournament that day. Justin won't be competing because of doctor's
orders, but let's plan to attend to congratulate him and to enjoy
watching some top atheletes compete.

There are several AAU Qualifiers in Texas every year. last year Shannon
competed in two; one in Houston and one in Dallas. These are the ones
announced so far:

March 8 Region 9 Quailifier in Houston, TX

April 26 West Texas Quailifier in Lubbock, TX

May 10 Southwestern Texas District Quailifier in McKinney (Dallas), TX

Last year there were two in Houston. It looks like one of them hasn't
been posted yet. We've never been to the one in Lubbock, but I
included it here just to complete the list of quailifiers in Texas.
There are also some in Florida and other near by states.

At 5:00 I do a normal WTF style TKD class, similiar to what we do but
at a beginner to intermediate level. At the end of class all their
students get to spar us.

Then at 6:00 we sit in on their class which is an Open Palm style.
Hey do a lot of arm, hand and fist techniques. It's like a Karate,
Hapkido, Judo mix. There's kicking, punching, grabbing, sweeping.

making the Beta Honor Roll at Dominican!

This Sunday our friend Justin will join us again at trainning. He is

sparring to help him practice. So bring your point sparring pads (boots
and gloves).

Don't over eat and get sick today, but enjoy!

The Moon College tournament is only 4 days away! I am available every
night this week to provide you additional practice / training. Call me
on my cell phone to make arrangements.

Also, everyone is invited to my house Saturday morning for a pancake
breakfast before the tournament. You should be at my house by 8:00AM.

I would like us to go as a group to the tournament and wearing a team T-
shirt. I've made an iron on transfer with out logo. You just need to
swing by K-Mart and pick up an ash (light grey) color T-shirt. Wash it
first to allow shrinkage, then apply the iron-on I will give you. It
goes on the left breast, over your heart. It really looks cool!

I also have someone who can make our logo into a patch. I'm trying to
get the cost below $10 per patch right now.

Subject: Overview of Tournaments
webfut2000

Send Email Send Email

Divisions are supposed to be divided by age, rank, weight. Since
local tournaments don't draw a lot of people (average 200 total, all
ages and ranks) divisions are usually combined to form one division.

Age divisions are 5 and under; 6 - 7; 8 - 9; 10 - 11; 12 - 13; 14-
17; 18-34; 35 and up.

Combined ranks would be two consecutive ranks; ie: green & blue, or
blue and purple. For black belt sparring rank is not considered.

Tournament directors try the best they can to keep the same ranks in
all the forms divisions so that everyone is doing the same form.
Weight isn't usually a consideration for forms. However, if it's
an "open" tournament then different styles will have different forms.

For sparring, an age group will be called to the staging area. I'm
seeing more local tournaments call just one age at a time and not
putting two ages in the same division. Once the division is in the
staging area they are seperated by size as best as can be done. Rank
is only considered for color belts.

As far as sparring rules, this is a general summary:

1 point for punch or kick to any where on the chest protector.

2 points for a kick to the facial area (from the ears forward. Not
the back of the head).

If the punch or kick causes the opponent to be given an 8-count, an
additional 1 point is awarded to the attacker.

There are also warnings and penalties that cause a player to lose
points. I have all the WTF rules posted in a document. Click on the
FILES link.
