According to the facility management folks here at the Lab, there are
predictions that on Sunday, Monday, & Tuesday nights we may
experience **Below Zero** temperatures and accompanying winds that
could bring the wind chill to cold levels we have not seen for several
years.

For those whose horses are normally blanketed, this would be the time
to consider adding another layer or so, and for all of them, double
check that they have shelter from the wind and a freeze-proof source
of water!

Research has shown that horses stay warmest when they have a belly
full of grass hay, as the digesting process for fiber (not grain)
produces a lot of heat. I'll be putting out half a bale of grass hay
for each of my critters those evenings, using a quilted stable blanket
under the big outdoor one, and adding hot water to their feed to
ensure good hydration before the long, cold night!
