If you let me watch your morning routine -- getting up, getting
dressed, eating breakfast, getting yourself to work or school -- I
can make some pretty accurate predictions about how you train when
practicing martial arts. Your everyday habits reflect your martial
arts habits.
Follow my line of thought....
There are many areas in your life that are in alignment. For example,
if we could take a peek inside your cupboards in your kitchen, we
could learn a lot about how you ... keep your bedroom. If one area is
messy and disorganized, it's a fairly good bet that the other will
lack organization as well.
The same can be said for the tidiness of one's bedroom and how one
keeps his or her locker or desk at school.
Habits and Your Martial-Arts Practice SessionsSo, how does your
martial-arts practice session fare?
One aspect that we could take a look at is how hurried you are in the
morning.
This morning, I had a few errands to run. As I drove the car down a
fairly busy street, I noticed the masses on their way to work. A
large number of them were trying to accomplish more than one task at
the same time: ...

Hello my Friends in the Arts,
We have two seminars with Joe Salomone coming up this week I want
to remind you all of. One will be at ACIFA, Friday May 2nd at
6pm, the fee will be $30 more or less. The other will be in
Syracuse at the Rudy Duncon Martial Arts Dojo, May 3rd 12-3pm. The
fee for that seminar is $45.
I look forward to seeing you all on Friday and hopefully meeting
some new faces too. If you have a friend that might be interested
please bring them along.
Sandra welcome to the group.

The most common place to buy martial arts or self defense equipment
is in the local dojo. Most dojos, training centers, etc., have a
small store where you can buy or order the martial arts or self
defense equipment you need for your practice.
Buying your martial arts or self defense equipment at your local dojo
has a lot of advantages. You will get expert advise from your
teacher. He knows your needs and what type of martial arts or self
defense equipment you are going to need for his classes. He will also
be the best person to advise you on the quality of the different
brands due to his years of experience with many different suppliers.
The negative part of buying martial arts or self defense equipment at
your local dojo is the price. Buying only a minor wholesaler, the
discount margins are very small and this will reflect itself in the
prices your teacher has to charge for the martial arts and self
defense equipment he or she sells.
The second possibility is buy your martial arts and self defense
equipment at a local specialized store. The advantage is a lower
price than in your local dojo or gym, you can touch, feel and try on
the equipment before you buy to see if you like it and if the size
fits you. You can get some advise from the salesperson about the
different brands of martial arts and self defense equipment they
sell....

With the recent surge in popularity of UFC fighting, many people are
curious about learning extreme martial arts. This type of self defense
is a combination of many martial arts styles using a combination of
philosophies, movements, methods and techniques. It is also combined
with gymnastics and acrobatics. Extreme martial arts is usually what is
seen on TV in the UFC ring, movies and on the web.
Those who are involved with the sport of extreme martial arts believe
that utilizing a combination of the skills that students learn in seld
defense classes can have students reaching goals once thought
impossible. Not only that by focusing on more than one type of martial
art encourages students to become better then was thought possible.
The goal of XMA is to show as much strength of the mind as the body. If
you can stand with your feet planted firmly on the ground and command
the attention of others without using movement, or sound you could be
able to fend off attackers by fear alone. The intense eyes of a extreme
martial art expert would be enough to scare a normal person without
even having to throw a punch or a kick....

If you are thinking of purchasing a gun, or other "self-protection"
device such as pepper spray or an alarm, then you are obviously
concerned about your personal safety. You know it is essential to
learn how to defend yourself, now more than ever! Today, not only do
you have to worry about criminals, but now terrorists as well! What
is this world coming to? Would you know what to do?
You may be thinking, "Well, I'll just get a gun!" Unfortunately, real-
world tests have shown that overall , weapons (or other "self-
defense" products) are often ineffective when it comes to self-
defense. Why?
There are many factors that contribute, but the main reason weapons
are ineffective is, if the weapon is not in your hand at the moment
of attack, you will never get the chance to use it! But, the law does
not allow you to walk around with a gun in your hand, and most
studies show that people soon forget to carry the various types of
self-protection devices they purchase.
Even if you have a stun gun or pepper spray in your purse or pocket,
if caught by surprise, you won't have a chance to get it out before
you get decked! Mace does you no good if it is still in the purse
that just got snatched out of your hand! Tests prove that 90% of the
time, you will never get the chance to reach for your weapon before
you are hurt too severely to use it....

Thanks Dave, That "tricky part"
is like a technique from Sao Lin Form :-D I haven't seen that in
20-30 years, thanks. For those of you coming to class on Tuesday
the 15th, remember class is at Sifu Tom's location in
Fairport. If you show up at ACIFA you'll be training all
alone. best
