I agree with Carl on the footwork and patterns being taught with the
introduction to kuntao.. In the Filipino systems I have been exposed
to, the Balangkas (basic forms/foundations) are taught at the
introductory level of white sash/belt.. The way I teach, the basic
forms are taught then torn down and rebuilt in the way it suits the
student's needs..

Since I've been back stateside, there has been a lot of interest in
Kuntao and silat in the Chicago area.. There are people who state
that they are teaching "kuntao/Kuntaw" but when I see them move, they
look like they are trying to apply the karate mechanics to the
fluidity of kuntao.. I recently attended a seminar in Grand Rapids
Michigan along with a fellow filipino kuntawista from Traverse City..
We were asked to show a little of the Kuntaw/Kuntao that we have been
exposed to.. The people who hosted the seminar said that
Kuntao/Kuntaw we showed them was a highly evolved art and it was
effective in the way we taught it.. I was fortunate enough to show
some of the Kuntao that I have had the privilege of learning from
Sifu Carl and the Law enforcement applications that I have applied
Kuntao into as part of my officer survival training program.

I thank Sifu Carl for the privilege of taking me under his wing and
helping me to close several loops in the research that I have been
doing with Kuntao/Kuntaw since the early 70's when I was first
exposed to Kuntao in Taiwan.. This knowledge that sifu Carl has
shared with me has also made me a better practitioner of Kuntao.

With Respect:
