Mr. Jackson,
Being since no one is answering, I will speak my mind.
Floor Patterns (aka Langkas), we really do not do them at my school as floor pattrens.
I believe maybe some other of the Liu Seong schools may do floor pattrens.
But the system that I was taught (as others in this system) is a combat orientated self defense system.
So stepping in floor pattrens was not enphisised. What we were taught was angles of movement against an opponent moving towards you.
The angluar movements forward and backwards, move similar to the triangluar floor patterns that is practiced in some Silat styles and are used on a attacker moving toward you. The practice is done with a partner. One is the attacker and the other is the defender. SO the triangler movement are done with a the thought of interaction in combat. At more advanced practice, it becomes more of a free style interaction kind of like Karate sparring but a bit more free in the use of technique. This type of interaction takes a great deal of control and skill.
We do practice Forms (Katas) that are mostly Chinese Chuan Fa forms. We do practice a couple forms that are from Silat styles.
Zaijian,
