Good post, Lorene. Dance certainly has a lot of physical similarities with
gung fu, but it seems to me that the mindset/intent would be quite
different. Obviously, the similarities help you learn martial arts. I'm
curious - have you found any aspects where you feel that your dance
training has hindered your ability to pick things up as easily/quickly?

I commonly hear TCMA teachers talk about how it's easier to teach a student
with no previous martial arts experience than someone who has trained in
something else - a clean slate doesn't need to be (at least partially)
erased. It stands to reason that a similar statement could be true of some
dancers, and I'm curious as to the viewpoint of a self-described "beginning
student" on the matter. (I think you might be selling yourself a bit short
with that description, though)
