Su,
I would like to play thursday nights on the west side
if possible. We can try Desert Breeze first (8pm) and
if no lights, then we can go over to that new park on
Buffalo and Summerlin Pkwy. (Do you know any place on
the west side with lights that will stay on until
10pmish??) I will show up even if means just
throwing. I will see if I can drag few people out
from the west side. Of course, everyone is invited.
My cell phone number is 235-5665.

Hi James, John, and y'all:
I won't be able to make pick-up this Saturday, beings that I have to play
confederate soldier this weekend at the Calico ghost town (the things I
do for my in-laws!). I'm afraid that'll preclude my appearance at the Art
Bar as well.
However, I'm delighted, John, to hear that your wife has started to pick
up a disc, and I look forward to playing with her (and other newbies)
soon.

James,
I'd rather play with people that know how to play, but I've set up some
newbie ultimate near my house again this week. It looks like it will be
happening every Saturday for the next while. Last Saturday was good seeing
my wife out there playing ultimate.
Everyone is invited if they want to come and play with newbies.
Time: 9:00
Place: Trail Canyon Park, Henderson
http://maps.google.com/maps?oi=map&q=Trail+Canyon+Rd,+Henderson,+NV+89074
We had 7 last week and expect more this week.

Thanks Monica and Eric for your advice, I am currently
in the process of contacting some attorneys in AZ to
see if they will take on the case. I've sent some
e-mails out, but I have yet to hear from them.
As far as showing up to the court in Yarnell, AZ is
concerned, I don't know if it's worth my time to show
up 2 or 3 times to the court just to see if I can
reduce the fine, no points, etc. When you factor in
the driving time (approx. 3-4 hours each way), absence
from work, and the toll on one's mental and physical
state, I would think it's worth the money to pay the
attorney to do the legwork. (Although, I may end up
paying more at the end!! Lol.) Oh well, let's see
where this will take me.
Once again, thanks for your advice.

James:
I agree mostly with the things that Monica says. The last Vegas
ticket I had I pleaded not guilty to. (That was my first visit.) Then
I had to go back for a second hearing. This is where the DA offered to
reduce the ticket to a parking ticket with no points. If you hire a
lawyer they will do the exact same thing. You'll have to pay for their
court time. I would not hesitate to say you can get at least $100
knocked off the total very easily. The best outcome would be to plead
guilty to a parking ticket and walk away with no points.
My ticket was not as excessive as yours so I don't know how that
will affect the process. If I were you I would hope for the best.
Factors that can affect a ticket are:
1. Calibration as Monica stated.
2. Whether the officer shows up for the SECOND or THIRD hearing. If
you don't take the plea bargain I believe the THIRD hearing is where you
get to argue against the officer. If he doesn't show the case is thrown
out.
3. Whether the officer lost sight of your vehicle. [If they did then
that is grounds for dismissal since he pulled you over after losing
sight of you there is no guarantee that your vehicle was the original
one that was speeding.]
4. Mail responses. From what I've heard in California you can do A LOT
of the process through the mail and avoid some appearances. You should
check the ticket you received and see if it allows you to plead not
guilty through the mail.
5. If you're trying to beat the excessive speed wrap you could get a
sworn statement from your passengers that say they were watching your
speedometer the whole time and you never exceeded XX MPH. This may
require your passenger to appear with you.
There's more and I believe I still have a book entitled "How to beat the
radar trap" that you could borrow if you so desire.

i believe that the only way you can hope to get out of this or get your
fine lowered is the followiing:
1. say that there was no way you were going over 90 and ask when the
last
time the radar was calerbrated. you must be careful though, cause if it
was
calerbrated resently then you just come out looking like a dick. but i
am
assuming you were clocked by radar. if not, then you can easily say you
were traveling slower.
2. you can showm up for your court date and just hope the cop doesnt.
when a cop doesnt show up for a non-guilty plea (which means a second
date
to this location) then your case is automatically thrown out of court
because their star witness did not show. this happens fairly
frequently.
3. you can show up for your court date and "throw yourself at the
courts
mercy" and hope that you can plead them down to 90 rather than 92
thereby
lowering your fine....this could work for you.
In any case, your insurance WILL no about this and WILL charge you more
on
your next policy. They may even cancel you or non-renew you because i
believe this is a "reckless driving" offense. if you get it lowered to
90
then it is just "excessive speed" and your premium will just go up.
I do have one last glimmer of hope for you James...get a lawyer from the
Kingman/Bullhead City area. He can go to court for you and get the
charge
lowered (easily) so you will pay a MUCH lower amount and it will be less
of
a charge on your DMV record. You will of course hav eto pay the
attorney.
This will be at least $100 plus any additional monies that it costs him
to
travel (assuming he may need to do that.) I hope this helps.
sorry james,
monica

Edwin,
I would like to have a lawyer handle this, but some
lawyer in Arizona? Anyone local who will take this
on? What about the lawyer's fee? How much does that
come out to? Still so many questions....sigh....

Hi everyone,
I thought I post this e-mail addressed to everyone in ultimate frisbee community because I need a little advice (perhaps someone has past experience at this). For those who don't know this already, I received a speeding ticket on my way to Tempe, Arizona. The cop clocked me at 92 at 65mph zone. The fine is $460 and I want to get that down to half that amount if possible. Should I plead NOT Guilty, set up a court date, and then try to talk to Court Attorney to see if I can reduce the fine or work out some kind of a

Even if I show up to court for my trial, what do I say? No, your honor, I wasn't going 92mph, I was going 90mph (That extra 2 miles doubled my fine. Mike, how did you handle your speeding ticket situation, last year? If I remember correctly, you said you were going over 100mph and you actually paid less? How can that be?

Hi everyone,
I thought I post this e-mail addressed to everyone in
ultimate frisbee community because I need a little
advice (perhaps someone has past experience at this).
For those who don't know this already, I received a
speeding ticket on my way to Tempe, Arizona. The cop

I want to get that down to half that amount if
possible. Should I plead NOT Guilty, set up a court
date, and then try to talk to Court Attorney to see if
I can reduce the fine or work out some kind of a deal?
Is that even possible? (It works in Law & Order.
Lol.) I'm also worried out point increase and
subsequent increase in premium for my car insurance.

Even if I show up to court for my trial, what do I

going 90mph (That extra 2 miles doubled my fine. I

All(Except those who liked Mike's idea),
Not to compete with Mike's great plans, but I wanted to let any interested
parties know about some low key newbie Ultimate on Saturday.
I did this once before and had a good time playing with some neighbors(and
the Wolfe's) at a local field here in Henderson. I think I've been able to
recruit even more people and my wife might even be playing(this will be the
third time in over 3 years of marriage). I can't promise the quality of
play, but it should be a good time on a pretty good field.

All,
Trouble in Vegas College ultimate tournament is going on this
weekend. I am planning on going and watching some games. UNLV men
and women are playing, so we can route them on. Also Oregon State
women are playing. I am contractually obligated to route for all
teams from OSU, but for those of you who aren't Pek (formerly of
Vegas is playing with them) so you can route her on and that will be
good enough for me. Be sure to yell her name loudly so people on
other fields stop and ask, "Someone call a pick?"
The plan
9am Breakfast at Mulligan's (corner of Boulder Highway and Russell)
9:30ish Onward to the Silver Bowl to watch some ultimate. I believe
games start at 9am.
The people
So far it is me and Dan. The rest of you knuckle heads are invited
as well.
The price
Breakfast runs in the area of $6
Entry to the tournament cost $5 payable to me. Okay it's free.
RSVP if you plan on making breakfast otherwise I make no promises on
room at the table.
- Mike
happy hour will be held at the art bar starting around 4:30pm and
going until 7:00pm at the latest. dinner at the tiffany cafe will
follow for some of us i'm sure.
it is also 1st friday, so the bar will be pretty hopping, and they
will have new art up (yay, no more bad penthouse airbrushed shite).
everyone is invited except that doghits character, cuz he's a real jerk.
dan
Hi everyone,
To those who rode in James' minivan, the gas money per
person comes to $15. Please cough up the dough next
time you see me. I mean it. (Threatening look on my
face.)
Also, I have Professor Dave as only person who still
owes me money for the tournament fee, which is $21.15.
Normally, I would be satisfied with $21, but since
you didn't pay me at the tournament and now it is
overdue, I want that 15 cents also. You're lucky I'm
not charging you interest. (Angry look on my face.
Arrgggghh.) Lol.
Thanks to Alex Ostrove for paying for the
dinner/pizzas on saturday night.

Warning: This e-mail is long...very long. Read at
you own risk.
Hi everyone,
NYF didn't start off so well from my perspective when
I was pulled over for speeding on our way to Tempe,
Arizona. Yipes!! (Don't ask me how fast I was
driving. 92 mph, so the officer claims, subject to
dispute, of course, lol.) To make the matter worse,
when we arrived at the Olive Garden Restaurant that
same night, there was a 45 minute-wait to be seated!!
Preposterous!! (All that time I spent researching
online to eat at Olive Garden...down the drain.)
Discouraged, we proceeded on to Chili's Restaurant
nearby. Food was decent, except for our darn waiter
who kept forgetting our drinks. AO was so incensed
that he actually went up to the bar to get the drinks
himself.
Our first game saturday was against a team from
Minnesota called Dingwop (#2 seed from our pool; Disco
Elvis was seeded #4). As always (lol), half of our
team lazily strolled in for our first game at 10am
while the other team was already running the endzone
drill. And as expected, Dingwop jumped all over us
right from the get-go and we really didn't recover
from the early onslaught. I always say, there is a
direct correlation with how we prepare for the game
(being on time, intensity of pregame drill) and the
outcome of the game. And sadly to say, it was right
on the money.
Our second game was against Freaks from the Peaks
(Flagstaff reunion), the #1 seed in our pool.
Although we were more cohesive as an unit for our
second game, the number one seed beat us pretty
comfortably. (Although, if we had few additional
players from Red Army bunch, I think we would've gave
them hell.)
We then had a bye. This was actually good for us
because it gave us a chance to regroup and refocus for
our next two games. Our third game was against #3
seed, a team called Hanta Virus from Univ. of New
Mexico. Hanta Virus was coming off from a
heart-breaking loss to #1 seed, Freaks from the Peaks,
in which they lost 15 to 14. During our bye, we
decided to really commit to running our zone defense
that we have been working on. We really didn't want
to run with these guys and we wanted to dictate the
pace of their offense. Their team had 3-4 really good
handlers that can pretty much run all day. The rest
of the team was so so.
Our "modified" zone really screwed up their offense.
We quickly went up on them and never looked back. At
one point, one of the handler that I was guarding
asked me, "Are you guys playing a zone?" I just
didn't say anything, lol. They made a "mini" comeback
before the half, but we close the first half up 7 to
6. If my memory serves me correctly, Hanta Virus did
not score any points in the second half and we won
easily 13 to 6.
I think there were many factors that contributed to
our first win of the tournament. First and foremost
was our zone defense and how we dictated their
offense. (And the wind was pretty much non-existent
throughout the tournament.) Second, we cranked up our
intensity in both offense (Romance!!!!!!!!) and
defense. Third, I think the other team just couldn't
recover from the earlier, heart-breaking loss to #1
seed team.
Our fourth and last game of saturday was against the
college team, Diablos from ASU (#5 seed).
Surprisingly, they went up on us pretty quickly and we
were down like 3 or 4 to zero. However, we mounted a
comeback of the century and took the half 7 to 6. We
elevated our intensity even further in the second half
and ended up winning 13 to 8.
I think this was first time in Disco Elvis' history of
going .500 on the first day of NYF Tournament. We
were like kids in a candy store, hi-fiving and hugging
one another in glee. But once the jubilation
subsided, we immediately addressed the most serious
matter on hand--the team dinner. After deciding that
showering before dinner was a good idea, Mike Bristol
came up with an ingenius idea of ordering pizzas to
our motel and eating out by the pool. (Way to go,
Mike!!) I was so happy about going .500 that I let
loose and had a beer with my dinner (GASP!!).
Disco Elvis had a "Boat Race" showdown with
Penultimate at the party. Unfortunately, Mike
couldn't handle his drinks and he let the team down
pretty badly. (It's alright, Mike, we still love you,
man. Sob, sob.) For the record, I am only kidding.
I've seen him do the boat race and he's always the
anchor for a good reason. We'll get them next year!!
Our first game on saturday was against a master's team
from Tucson called Hustlers. This time, the other
team lazily strolled in for the game while we were
running the endzone drill. And according to my
theory, we easily beat them--guaranteeing us of going
.500 for the whole tournament!!!
Our next game was against our old nemesis, The Hammer
of the Gods (Case Western Reunion/Phoenix). They have
beaten us for the past 3 or 4 years in a row. We
exchanged few points in the beginning, but they then
threw a zone on us. Their strategy was to force the
disc to the sideline and to trap us. For some reason,
we started making a lot of mental mistakes. We even
put 4 handlers back, but instead of swinging the disc
back and forth, we tried too hard to jam it into our
poppers, causing turnovers. In the second half, we
made a valiant effort to comeback, but we fell
short--losing to them 15 to 10. I look forward to
beating them next year. We can do it!!
Overall, we were extremely satisfied with going .500
for the whole tournament. (We played against
Penultimate afterwards, but that was just for
fun--"Beer Game". We lost, but both of the teams had
tons of fun playing the game.) That may sound strange
to a lay person, but this was first time in Disco
Elvis' history where we went .500 at NYF Tournament.
Congratulations to everyone for a job well done. I
look forward to having a blast next year at this
tournament....minus the speeding ticket.
James

Hi everyone,
Just a friendly reminder that everyone owes me $21.15
($275 divided by 13 people) for the tournament fee.
And no rounding down to $21 crap, I want exact $21.15,
darn it!!!!!!!!!!! What change?! Get the heck out of
here!!!!!!!!!
Due date and time: Jan. 28th at 11am (sometime before
our first game on saturday). You don't pay, you don't
