Just a quick update on the equipment for the Steel Challenge Matches:
The USPSA club has announced the upcoming Steel Challenge matches
which will be shot as a monthly match probably beginning in April.
Just a quick update on the equipment needed for the Steel Challenge
Matches:
Robert and I have personally invested approximately $1600 in the
purchase of some AR-500 ("rifle steel") and all of the trimmings to
weld up some frames/hangers for the plates. I delivered the steel to
a local business who cut all the plates out on a CNC plasma machine
and they are ready to be picked up. I have arranged the use of a
friend's fabrication shop to do the frame/stand work. Robert, Will
and I will begin cutting and welding the materials beginning next
week. We will have plenty of 12" plates, 10" plates, and 18x24"
plates to shoot the Steel matches with. Our next purchase will
probably include the materials to build some steel stands to hold the
plat at the right height for the Steel Challenge matches. Out of the
purchase, we have also cut 8 more poppers for regular match use. All
these items are rifle steel. Square tubing has already been
purchased by the USPSA club to build a few more portable wall
sections and barricades.
I personally have cut out an additional 14 poppers which will be used
at matches when necessary. I have also worked up a drop-out target,
a drop turner, and a swinger that we will finish fabrication on soon
and test them out at one of our matches.
It looks like we are well on our way to having plenty of equipment
available to shoot our two monthly matches. With these materials, we
should be able to host the NM Sectional this summer - but that will
be Robert's monster task to coordinate.
If there are any ideas for further equipment, drop us a line and we
will see what we can work up. Make sure and start loading up some
ammo to pound these targets with. That's all for now.
