Don't forget the love of your life on Valentines day:
Untitled Poem by "Shawdowcat" from
The corporate office is so stuffy
I would not change in there.
I've got to find a discreet spot
To bare my derriere.
The truck cab is so very small
I hate these daily fights,
But since the bike is calling me
I squirm into my tights.
The special socks, my jersey too,
the sun block's been applied,
Gloves and glasses and a helmet—
When will I get to ride?
The tire pressure is okay,
the brakes are working fine,
I finally start to ride my bike
When my thighs begin to whine.
I rode too much the day before,
I needed some more rest.
To hell with that! I cry out loud,
I have to pass the test.
There is no test you silly fool,
You made it up yourself.
You ride like mad with grand delusions
That you are top shelf.
You are not Lance, you are not Hammer
You have to take a chill.
No way I tell that inner voice,
Look at that lovely hill!
All the gear and all the checking
Just to crank out miles.
The soreness and the tired legs
Turn into great big smiles.

Flyers:
As always, we need more. They keep disappearing from the locations we're leaving them. Steve said he'd take some to the Bike America too in case other riders from this side of the world go out there too.

· Steve suggested using the art work that's been created for some other kind of clothing (such as dry wicking shirts, or hats, etc) since it's taking us so long to finalize something with bike jerseys.
· The idea was well received, and doing a jerseys in the future is still on the table, but we may need a volunteer outside of the board members to take ownership of that project.
If you really want a Lakeside Bike Jersey (someday) then here is your chance to make that happen.
Insurance:
Badger determined the cost would be $93 for the insurance plus $45 (per year) to join the League of American Bicyclists.
If we have any fund raising or "pay rides" we would have to pay another $93
Just like most insurance policies it has interesting rules about what is covered and what isn't. We need to have further discussion regarding that to determine if it's worth getting.
Sherry is going to research registering Lakeside Cyclist as a Non Profit organization to see what that would do to eliminate our liabilities as apposed to paying for the insurance which may not cover everything as well as we'd prefer.

Time Trials for 2007: no change….
Starts on May 1st.
Races will be Every Other Tuesday, 6pm.
We will have a total of 12 trials, but….
Points will be counted on each person's first 10 races.
That gives everyone a chance to miss two races without getting hurt on the overall points chase.
Note: We will have the club meeting after the races on two of those nights.
Note: Racing on Tuesday nights to give us a day to recover after long weekend rides or races, and we're doing them every other week to see if that makes it easier for folks to make it to more races.
We're still looking for ideas on how to streamline the race next season.
Last years method of splitting the group and having two people time everyone else, then letting them do their laps might take too much time with the two lap format. If you have thoughts on how to improve on that method please let us know.
Current suggestions and thoughts are:
Recruit our non-riding friends or family to be timers.
Switch timers as soon as the first person finishes and can take over, rather than waiting for the entire first group to finish before changing timers.
Get a sponsor to donate a multi thousand dollar chip timing system!!
Upcoming events:
April 14th (Saturday) Lunatic Fringe Off Road Duathlon at
This is part of the Fat Tire Duathlon series. Find more information at:
http://www.midwestfattireseries.com/
April 1: 2007 (Sunday) Brew to Brew relay run. http://www.brewtobrew.com/
We have several people interested in doing this but we're looking for more participants to fill out the race. The current list who've expressed interest are: Steve, Richard, Keith, Mike, Berna Sue, (and you????)
We'll also be looking for a designated driver with a designated support vehicle. It's been suggested to have blaze orange for our official team color.
OPEN Discussion
Cheap Trek bikes are flying out the door of one not so local bike shop as Steve snatches up discounted overstock.
In honor of Valentines day, and as a display of true love, Steve is giving his loving and understanding wife (DD) a new bike too. Okay, it's not new, it's his old used bike, but then again, I'm not sure he's ever owned a bike long enough for it to qualify for old or used.
Yes, I'm just picking on him because I'm jealous. Well there's that plus he didn't give me his old Triathlon bike. I had to buy it. What's up with that?
FIMQ (Foot In Mouth Quote) of the meeting:
Steve again: Apparently Steve didn't wear pants when he did the Triathlon in
It makes Richard and I even happier that he was BEHIND us in that race!

Sorry if this gets posted twice, I forgot to include a subject line the first time and the post hasn't shown up yet so I submitted it again.
