The Lakeside Cycling Club September meeting was called to order - or maybe the orders were called - at Side Pockets Restaurant and Billiards on September 5th. We had a good showing of members. It could have been the new time, the new location, or the full moon. Lots of business was discussed - such as the benefits of ordering the Tuesday special of buckets-o-beer. Other items are below...
- Notable items:
- DD declared: "I can take it any way I want to."
- Treasury: we currently have $354 in the treasury.
- Brochure/Flyer: Ride times and meeting time & location were updated after the meeting and are on the Yahoo site.
- Yahoo site: Several new people have signed-on, but not known to anyone present at the meeting.
- Ride Schedule:
- Dam rides now start at 8:00 AM Saturdays till the weather forces us to arrange afternoon rides instead.
- MTB Rides are 7 pm Wednesdays at Smokin Davey Trailhead.
- Route Maps: It was decided by the group that we don't really need route maps for the Dam Rides. Most of the members and regular Dam Riders are very familiar with the roads in the Smithville Lake area and are capable of leading or following a route by memory, at least until we get a few more years behind us or a few more beers in us. Only the Special Rides will have maps drawn for them.
- Ride Refreshments: Still doing good with donations.
- Time Trials:
- BADGER was the 2006 POINTS CHAMPION
- DD was the 2006 POINTS CHAMPION OF OPPOSITE SEX
- SOFTIE was the 2006 SPEED CHAMPION
- We cut the minimum requirement for "MOST IMPROVED" to only 5 trials because there weren't many riders meeting the previous requirement for 8 trials. No decision on the MOST IMPROVED rider was made at the meeting.
- NEED PRIZES - especially for BADGER - the 2006 POINTS CHAMPION
- 2007 Time Trials will be 2 laps at the downtown airport international speedway.
- Insurance: We will join the League of American Bicyclists and begin the insurance program in February 2007. We still need a quote.
- Club Logo: We had a submission from Dover's artist coworker and several follow-ups based on it. PLEASE ADD YOUR IDEAS TO THE PILE.
- Club Sponsorship:
- Side Pockets was offered discount technical "Under Armor" style shirts with their logo and an LCC logo on them.
- Not too many of us would look good in Under Armor - since the Weasel is not a current member.
- The club discussed and decided to pursue additional partial sponsorships from local businesses to apply toward nice cycling jerseys. Need to check on prices and styles.
- Possible sponsors and those who will inquire: Schatto Dairy and Platte Valley Bank (Hammer), The Wheel (Dover), Side Pockets (Lamar), Cycle City (?).
- Hammer also thought Platte Valley Bank and Schatto may be interested in sponsoring the Sucky Century.
- Officer Nominations and Elections:
- Elections for Vice President and Secretary (2 year terms) will be held at the October meeting.
- Dover was nominated for Vice President
- Dover is primarily associated with the Beer Party and has been a leader in many areas this year, so we figured we'd teach him to be so active by Shanghaiing him into an office (not the corner one).
- Grizz was nominated for Secretary
- Grizz is one of the most computer-literate in the club (he has his own web site) and actually makes it to darn near every meeting. Even with Grizz's presence at the meeting, we were able to start the railroading process. His later protest via email only proved how fit he is for this office.
- Any member up-to-date on club dues may be nominated and elected to office at the October meeting.
- Only members that are up-to-date on club dues are able to vote.
- Upcoming Events:
- Lamar's Weiner (ride) was Saturday 9/9/06. Rain
- Octaginta
- Moonshine Parkville Ride - date TBD
- Dover's Scary Halloween Ride - TBD
- Fall Party - Grizzs's possibly 10/28. Need to decide at October meeting.
- Sadler's Racing Outing - TBD
- Brigade Football - February or March
- Bonk Fest - Earthriders MTB ride in Arkansas - Leave KC on Wed. 10/11 thru 10/15
- NEXT MEETING: Tuesday October 3rd - 7:00 PM at Side Pockets, US-169 & Englewood Road (600 NW Englewood)
