Greetings from the Free and Independent State of North of the River.

The Lakeside Cycling Club held it's monthly meeting on August 1st and got right down to business - of ordering food and drinks.  We eventually got around to club stuff - and heeeeeeeere it is...

  • Membership - We have two new (dues-paid) club members:
    • Jim Berger - also known as "Yak" (for those who haven't heard the story of that name - let's just say is came after a hard mountain bike ride on an unsettled stomach).
    • John Summers  - who will need a name.  John joins us looking for advice and new cycling experiences as he rides into top shape.  He has since ridden with us from the dam on Saturday 8-5.
  • Treasury
    • Current accounting is $334, plus the dues from John.
  • Brochure/Flyer
    • Dover will be adding the disclaimer to the flyer and making more copies to distribute.
  • Yahoo Group Site
    • We have several new people on the site.  One was discovered to be in India and looking for donations.  This person was removed from the group.  Other new people have tended to not include any personal info, so we remain in the dark until or unless they show at rides.
    • Disclaimer has been added to the home page.
    • Time Trial results are in an Excel file in the "files" section.
    • There are a number of new pictures added from several recent races and events.
  • Ride Schedule
    • Briefly discussed the fall time change for the Saturday Dam Ride.
    • We will discuss and decide at what date to change to 8:00 am during the September meeting.
  • Route Maps
    • The route for (planned) pre-RAGBRAI century was mapped on the geo-pedometer site and reworked with instructions by Nail and Dover.  It's on the group site.
  • Ride Refreshments
    • We continue to do well with donations.
  • Time Trials
    • Only two trials remaining: 8-7 and 8-14.
    • The final time trial will be TWO LAPS with the normal points for placements (not double-points), per the vote of the club members.
    • Review of Prize Categories as decided in the June meeting:
      • Points Champion - Most total points, no limit on participation.
      • Fastest Average Speed of a rider's 3 fastest trials.
      • Most Improved Rider (8-Trial Minimum) based on vote of members.
    • Prizes
      • Need to investigate donations or discounts from LBSs.
      • No actual prizes decided - will see what can be done.
  • Insurance
    • Yak (a legal beagle) advised it would be worthwhile.
    • Need actual quote from the LAB program (Badger)
    • Need info from similar clubs.  Anyone with contacts in other clubs are requested to inquire as to whether they have insurance and the rationale for why or why not.
  • Club Logo
    • Calling all would-be artists - submit your ideas NOW.
  • Club Sponsorship
    • Looking for ideas or contacts.
    • Lamar may have a contact with Side Pockets.
  • Fall Party/Picnic/Awards Ceremony
    • The Grizzes have volunteered their hacienda for this event.
    • More details to be discussed at the September meeting.
  • Officer Elections
    • Nominations will be considered for the offices of Vice President and Secretary, whose terms are up this year.
    • Terms are two-years, but there are no limits on the amount of terms.
    • Vote at the October meeting(?) - so, to avoid being railroaded or Shanghaied, you better be there!
  • Upcoming Club Events
    • Sucky Century
      • Need details of route, time, etc.
      • Will need to create flyer for distribution with all info VERY SOON (Dover volunteered, but he needs the info).
    • Lamar's Wiener Ride and Roast
      • Lamar wasn't present, so this remains an open item.
    • Moonshine's Parkville Ride
      • Moonshine suggested a reschedule of the (mostly) rained-out Parkville ride from last July 4th.
      • Open item to be discussed and scheduled.  Possibility of combining this and the Wiener Roast?
  • Other Local Events
  • Other Discussion Items
    • Last month Lamar asked whether there is interest in club members purchasing Brigade Football Tickets ($72 per season) and tailgating before games.
    • Last Month Badger suggested a club outing to Sadler's Indoor Racing - an indoor high-powered go-kart track
T-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-hat's all folks.
