HEY - I'm getting these notes out in the same week as the meeting this time! How about that!
We had another productive meeting, as the Pizza Shoppe is now open till 10:00 just to accommodate us.
Here's just a small portion of what we discussed:
MEMBERSHIP
- We welcomed new member Richard Holden into the club. Richard is another in our ever-growing list of triathletes. We may need to add a sub-group for the tri crowd.
- Don Treichel (Nail) officially rejoined the club this past month - welcome back!
- We still don't have a really good name for Dan Murphy. "Cheater" partially stuck, but even I (who suggested it) don't think it's that good. "Ironman" was suggested a while back, but that's so cliché. I think we need to ask his wife...
TREASURY REPORT
- We have a treasury, as meager as it stands right now.
- A suggestion was made for an end-of-the-season Party/Award Night/Pub Crawl, etc. More discussion next month.
LCC BROCHURE
- The latest version is available on the group site and Ben printed and brought 50 copies to the meeting.
- A further revision is needed to add Hammer's Wednesday Mountain Bike Ride - Hammer needs to confirm the details of exactly what to include.
YAHOO GROUP SITE
- Several new members have signed-up recently.
- Dover assisted some members getting connected.
- Badger and Dover will continue to monitor messages and delete the outdated ones.
ROUTE MAPS
- Badger is entering routes into the USATF.org database.
- Search at www.usatf.org - click on "America's Running Routes" - search under Smithville, Kansas City, or Liberty, Missouri.
- Members are invited to add routes on the site - follow the route naming format that has been used to identify rides from the dam.
- Badger will create pdf files of the maps and add them to the group site under the "files" section.
RIDE REFRESHMENTS
- The idea for the club to purchase coolers has been tabled because several members volunteered their own coolers for use by the club.
- Chapstick donated several 6-gallon GatorAde packages, which are being used at time trials.
- Lamar has also been able to fill coolers with donated GatorAde for rides.
- There are some leftover waters and sodas from the picnic that can be used, too.
SATURDAY DAM RIDES
- The time has changed to 7:30 AM as of the start of June.
- The fast and slow groups will start at the same time.
- Meet in the Dam parking lot on Hwy. DD just east of the dam (NOT the Litton Center lot).
SPECIAL RIDE - SATURDAY JUNE 24th
- TIME: 8:00 AM - (to allow anyone at the dam time to get to the meeting spot in Liberty)
- MEET at Lewis and Clark Elementary School on Glen Hendren and Nashua Roads.
- This is near the I-35/MO-291 interchange - UNDER THE WATER TOWER.
- Glen Hendren is the first light south of I-35 on MO-291.
- Turn east on Glen Hendren - you will see the back of the school.
- Turn right onto the first street - Nashua Drive - park in the school lot near the water tower.
- A map will be put onto the yahoo group site.
- The ride will (mostly) be in the countryside east of Liberty on (mostly) smooth roads with (mostly) hilly topography and (mostly) very light traffic.
- A map will be placed on the group site.
- Dover will host a home brew carbo-reload following the ride.
- An LCC member (Chapstick) will check the dam parking lot at 7:30 to either lead a short ride from the dam or direct anyone waiting at the dam to the Liberty meeting location (rider's choice).
TIME TRIALS
- There has been a slight change in meeting spots. From now on, we meet in the lot right in front of the main terminal of the Wheeler Downtown Airport, near the main airport sign on the outer road. The start line is at the sign.
- There will be NO Time Trial on July 3rd.
- Total schedule has 12 time trial nights with the last one on August 14th.
- Badger has a spreadsheet of results and standings that will be placed on the group site.
- Several rules and award categories have been decided upon by the club members:
- Points Champion - most total points at the end of the season (NO limit on number of trials).
- No limit on the number of trials should encourage participation.
- Fastest Average Time/Speed based on the 3 fastest times for each rider.
- Most Improved Rider - Minimum of 8 Trials ridden.
- "Most Improved" will be a judgment call by the members.
SUCKY CENTURY
- A suggestion was made to have the ride on Sunday 9/3 rather than Monday 9/4. More discussion next month.
- Flyers will be distributed in places we also distribute the club flyers.
- The ride itself will be free, with donations accepted (see below).
- Suggestion made to have breakfast (as Hammer and Nail have done in the past) and post-ride carbo/liquid-load and have a donation jar to help with the cost.
