The biggest trick to getting accurate profiles on this program (or any of the others that are out there) is to put a dot at the bottom and top of each hill. It basically puts the dot on a topo and generates the number from that. If you miss a “start/finish” of a hill I don’t think it will record it. As far as GPS profiles, they are notoriously inaccurate, you would be much better off with a barometric altimeter.

That came from the USA Track & Field web site www.usatf.org . They have a method of mapping routes (America's Running Routes) that measures the distance and generates the profile. In fact, this route and several others are saved under Smithville, MO. I'm not sure the profiles are completely accurate, but this one appears fairly close.

My Fellow Lakers:
Tomorrow - Tuesday 5/1/07 - will kick-off the 2007 LCC Time Trial Series.
The start line is one block NORTH of the Smithville downtown square at the corner of Church and Bridge Streets. We will start just north of this corner in a northerly direction on Bridge St. The finish line will be just east of this intersection in front of the church on Church St. There is parking on the north end of the square next to & behind the Brickhouse or on the streets or at Heritage Park (3 blocks east on DD). The course description:
1) Start on Bridge St just north of Church St. intersection
2) North on Bridge St to Hwy. FF (1st St.)
3) Right - east - onto FF (CAUTION - dangerous storm drain at corner)
4) Follow FF thru an "easy" left at fork in the road - now going north
5) Follow FF up hill and around sweeping bend toward the east
6) GO STRAIGHT - DO NOT TURN where FF turns left at water tower
7) Road makes bend to the southeast & crosses the dam
8) Right (west) turn onto DD at south end of dam
9) Follow DD west into Smithville - pass Heritage Park
10) Right (North) turn onto Smith St. (first street after park)
11) Smith St turns left (west) and becomes Church St.
12) Church St west to finish line
--- Total length 5.0 miles ---
We will ride a course tour and warm-up lap before the trial to familiarize everyone with the course. Tricky spots are:
- the dangerous storm drain at the intersection at Bridge St and 1st St (hear that, Lamar?)
- Right turn onto DD at the south end of the dam (traffic and parked cars)
- Traffic near Heritage Park in Smithville
The monthly club meeting will follow the Time Trial at 7:00 pm and will be in a NEW LOCATION:
The Brickhouse Cafe & Pub
111 N. Bridge Street in Smithville
I hope to see everyone there, but the fast guys can wait till the 7:00 meeting time to show up.
