Time Trial Routes for 2007
The airport is looking sketchy for this year. Lamar
and Grizz rode it yesterday and it has some nasty bumps and asphalt issues
apparently. Most likely it will not be a good spot this year. It
had some rough spots last year, but it has deteriorated apparently. Probably
trying to keep those darn cyclists and runners from slowing down all of the
traffic out there. They are such a nuisance!
Grizz
was talking about a route off of 92 that we was going to map out. The
more options the better.

The airport is out for me.........too far from
work or home. I know you need to go with location that is best for the
majority, but the further north you go, the more interested I'd be in
participating.

Subject: [LakesideCycling] Time Trial Routes for 2007
To All You Racers:
Concerning
the proposal to change TT routes this year, I encourage anyone and everyone to
try to identify a route or two for consideration. We can arrange email
rides to try them out and decide on one at the April meeting. I have
reservations concerning traffic and turns on any open road course .
Riding a time trial would presume not stopping, though there are stop
signs on most or all of the road courses we could imagine. Cross-traffic
is also a concern at all intersections. These are not concerns at the
airport, which would be a big advantage of staying there. So, I also
encourage everyone to remember safety when plotting courses and when the time
comes to decide on one.
After
having said all that, I have identified several possible routes.
The
first is 5 miles. The traffic is not too bad in the evening except for near the
baseball fields on 100th Street, though the speed limit there is 25. It
has many hills and no real flat sections. The surfaces are in pretty
decent shape. I think the parking lot is gravel, though. I've
ridden the roads there many times, though not as a time trial circuit. I
suspect that 5 miles all out around this course would have our tongues dragging
on the ground!
-
Start at Platte Purchase Park (at about Platte Purchase Road and 104th Street)
-
South on Platte Purchase to NW 100th Street
- West
on NW 100th Street to Green Hills Road
-
North on Green Hills Road to NW 108th Street
- East
on NW 108th Street to Platte Purchase Road
-
South on Platte Purchase and return to the park.
------------
Here's
one with great parking (a school) and a good variety of hills and flats.
The road surfaces are good and the traffic is decent for the most part.
It's only 4 miles, but a hefty climb makes up for the shortness. We
could always do two laps, if we dare.
-
Start at Northview school at NE 92nd Street and Indiana Road
- West
on 92nd to Indiana
-
North on Indiana to 100th Street
- East
on 100th Street to Staley Road
-
Southeast on Staley to Brighton Road
-
South on Brighton to 92nd Street (steep climb)
- West
on 92nd back to the school
------------
Here's
another shorty (3 miles) in that same neighborhood that would require two laps.
The roads are good and most are empty. There are some good hills in
it, too. The intersection of Barry & Brighton is a 4-way stop.
Parking is on the street on the old Barry Road bridge over I-435.
-
Start at Sam Ray Road and Barry (old Barry Road bridge over I-435)
-
South on Sam Ray to Barry Road
- West
on Barry to Brighton
-
North on Brighton to 92nd
- East
on 92nd to Sam Ray
-
South on Sam Ray to Barry Road bridge
------------
The
next route is 6 miles. It starts with a flat first mile, a huge downhill,
a long climb followed by a long drop, and finishes with a couple miles of
brutal hills. The road surfaces range from very good asphalt to chip and
seal, but are OK over all. The most tricky part of the route would be
turning right from 144th onto Mt. Olivet. The only parking is on a gravel
road (136th west of Virginia) or in Animal's driveway. Animal would like
this one because it's right outside his door. Again, the hills will have
you sucking air (or just sucking)!
-
Start at 136th & Virginia
-
North on Virginia to 144th Street
- East
on 144th Street to Mt. Olivet Road
-
South on Mt. Olivet to 136th Street
- West
on 136th to Virginia
------------
The
next is 6.15 miles long with mostly gradual hills and flats in Dover's back
yard. There is a rough chip and seal surface for about 1.5 miles on 132nd
Street, but the rest of the roads are decent. Parking would be on the
street in a new subdivision at 120th and Sherman Road.
-
Start at NE 120th and Sherman Road
-
North on Sherman to 132nd Street
- East
on 132nd to Eastern Road
-
South on Eastern to 120th Street
- West
on 120th Street to Sherman Road
------------
See
you out there.
