Yeah we would love to have you and anyone else who would like to come. As of right now we have 14 so the more the merrier. We've had a lot of people flake like on friday nights so we've been playing most games down 3-4 players. It would be awesome to have a full side for our last game. Keep me posted as to anyone willing to come and play. Thanks!

Ladies,
Sorry for the last minute notice, but the Happy Valley Lady Barbarians have a match this Saturday at 11am against Lancaster. We've had our roster drop down to 11 players - definitely not enough to field a side for the game. I would like to invite anyone who is interested in playing to join us in State College for a game and a social. Also, if you'd like to come play and need a place to stay let me know and we can set you up.
Thanks,
Garber

Teammates,

I am glad to see the team is coming together in supporting these kids on this event.  As other has mentioned, “…this is the only chance these kids will ever have on playing any type of sports.”  We are all athletes and we know the feeling we get when we step on the pitch and run around…now this is your chance to share these feelings with a less fortunate disable kid.

According to Reno counts, we have roughly 9-10 fully committed volunteers…only seven are current players.  I cannot express any more how important this event is for those kids and us.  I hope to see this list grow soon…

On behalf of Mr. President, El Capitan, and LVRFC, I want to say thanks to those who already are committed to this event…

Jeff,

Depending on the headcount... I will take responsibility of the jerseys.  We could coordinate when and where we should meet...Melissa needs at least twelve volunteers.

We need a good turn out for this event...wives, girlfriends, and partners are welcome to come and volunteer with the team.  So far I have one volunteer...

Milton - yes

Milton,

I have the blue Jerseys and I'm more than happy to have our team wear
them, provided someone can take them home and clean them post match.
I'm traveling most of this week, but should be back on Friday.

Milton,

I have the blue Jerseys and I'm more than happy to have our team wear
them, provided someone can take them home and clean them post match.
I'm traveling most of this week, but should be back on Friday.

In a mHello,
I am really happy that many of you are thinking of coming to the park.  The Miracle League of the Lehigh Valley is a baseball program for children with special needs.  The children's disabilities range from children with autism to children with physical disabilities.  The only requirement to play Miracle League baseball is that they could not play for a typical baseball team.  There are 300 children who play Miracle League baseball.  Each child belongs to their own team just like any other little league and play every week.  We have 8 games a week at the park from May through October.

I am the only employee of the Miracle League, and need 300 Volunteers a week to run the ball park.  Each child is paired with a volunteer to be their "angel in the outfield".  What that means is that you hang out with the kids for two inning of baseball and help them play.  Some children need help batting and catching the ball, others hit home runs out of the park and just need good company.  It is really a great time.  Miracle League is non competitive, so every child is up to bat until they hit the ball, each child takes a base at time, and the last batter in the inning automatically hits a grand slam home run to clear the bases and then take the out field.  The game is always tied at the end by the magic of the score board.

I think it would be a great idea to wear your rugby jerseys, and you can also solicit some media if you want, I could see the head line now, "Come See The Miracle of The Softer Side of Rugby".

We need at least 12 people to come help!

It is really a lot of fun.  I have the best job ever.

The field is located at: 5858 Sell Road, Schnecksville PA 18078.  Basically you take 22 West to 309 North.  (be sure to stay on 309 N, there will be a split where you will have to turn left to stay on 309 at a wachovia, otherwise you will end up on 873) About 9 miles from the 22 exit you will see a big white barn on your left hand side the instructs you to make your next left on sell road.  Right after the trees you will see the park on the right hand side, it says Jaindl Family Park, that is the Miracle League field.

Please let me know if you need any more info.  Our web site is www.miracleleaguelv .org

Boozer vs. Corn Update: “Hot Dog Eating”

An evening to be remembered for sure…

The first majorly spectated event for the BVCICGF. If you weren’t there, you missed out.

With 20+ in attendance this was truly a spectacle. Both competitors undertook a major effort to train for this event through research and starvation in the three days they had to prepare. This left a rather cranky “Corn” and “thirsty” “Boozer” complaining for the better part of an hour before the competition about how hungry they were. Both were very anxious to compete in this event.

At 8:25 the introductions were done. This included the star spangled banner and boxing style entrance into the arena (the back yard). Rules were as follows: 15 Oscar Mayer beef franks and buns per competitor. First to finish all 15 or most complete hot dog + buns that were consumed in 5 minutes would win. Both hotdog and bun must be eaten to count. You could eat a quarter of a dog as long as ÂĽ of both dog and bun were eaten. At the 5 minute mark anything in the mouth may be chewed and swallowed but nothing maybe added to the mouth. Any regurgitation would disqualify.

With Drew and I in close observance, at the start, both competitors used similar strategy, dunking buns in water and eating dogs separately.  Despite the crowd’s heckles and raucous demeanor both participants remained focused and went neck and neck until the 4:45 second mark. At that point Mike dealt what looked like the deathblow to boozer and went ahead with a huge final bite of ½ of a dog. The event seemed to have gone to Mike as boozer was at that point spent. At the five minute mark both competitors had 9 dogs down and mike with an additional mouthful of his 10th dog. Mike had a very full mouth. When he went to respond to his girlfriend's question/comment, a large piece of dog was ejected from his mouth. (see pics, we have the exact moment of expulsion).

Mike was not allowed to return the ejected piece of meat to his mouth and it was returned to his plate of uneaten dogs. Of course this started a major controversy. The BVCICGF Officials inspected the piece of ejected meat and decided to go into seclusion to decide the fate of the event, all while the now bloated Corn and Boozer fought about it outside for 15 minutes.

The Officials consulted, and giving plenty of time for the drama to unfold, the decision was made; not being satisfied with mikes effort on the 10th dog and per professional competitive eating competition rules it was decided we would have a 5 dog eat off, much to the competitors dismay. We gave them 15 minutes to digest. The overtime would be first to 5 dogs or most finished in 15 minutes. Both competitors used this time to try and burn off what they just ate. Boozer swam in the pool, mike jumped rope.

With drew now peppering us with very selective musical accouterments such as, “highway to the danger zone” and “ the final count down”, the overtime period commenced.

Boozer came out steady and by the 10 minute mark he had 4 of 5 down compared to Mike’s 1 1/2. Seemingly ahead, all he had to do was “hold his lunch” until the bell. Mike having had his fill of lips, assholes and nitrates, tried to play the time card and let boozer puke before time was up. Boozer, with eyes and stomach bulging, was in true sportsman fashion able to hold on and take the event.

Not long after the official decision Boozer let loose the medium of his victory into a Home depot bucket ( see pics). Mike attempted to make his evacuation less public and went behind the fence by the pool equipment only to be caught by the camera of Mr. Chris McGee who drove 10 hours to attend this event as his first stop on his 10,000 mile US road trip.

The competition stands at a very close 9-8, Corn over Boozer.

Make your summer sizzle with fast and easy recipes for the grill.

Team,

We have a great opportunity to show our support in a Quoite tournament Sunday July 26 at Starters CLUB HOUSE in Bethlehem.  The tournament is a fundraiser to support a local athlete who suffered a Back/neck injury that will most likely leave him unable to walk again.

They need at least 16 teams (2 players per team) for a successful tournament.  There will be a $25 registration fee for each team that enters.  Most of the money will support Jermaine and his family during this crisis; and a small portion will go towards a prize for the winning team.

Date: July 26
Time: 12:00
Place: Starters CLUB HOUSE, Bethlehem
Entry fee: $25 per team

This is a great opportunity to show the community that we are also a strong team off the pitch.

RSVP as soon as possible to stephengorski@... or jbelkoff@....  Tell them that you are a member (brother/sister) of the Lehigh Valley Rugby Football Club (LVRFC).

I hope to see you all there.  There is a facebook link that you can find under Booser's page or my page in facebook.

Please, please, please try to make it to practice on Thursday (especially if you
are new to 7s). We have some extra bodies (old heads) that are willing to play
defense. We have a bunch of new players, old players and some who need a

Wheelbarrow of Cheer. If you are under 21, please bring mixers, soda, etc
(anything that goes with Alcohol).

I can roster 12 girls, so if you have anyone who is interested in playing,
please get me their name ASAP.

1. Crystal
2. Kate
3. Jill
4. Carla
5. Carly (must leave by 1 or 2pm)

Hi Everyone:  Things come at me fast with the tournament and it will be difficult for me to try to brief you all at the fields on what needs done.  So, I'm laying it all out here.  Please print this off and bring it with you to the fields to use as a check-list.

We always strive to make our tournament the best sevens tournament on the East Coast and the feedback that we've received from teams, managers, referees and coaches in the past has been very good.  We want to keep that reputation.  From site prep, to management throughout the day, to how we as hosts interact and treat the other teams and spectators are very important.

Here are the things that need to be completed for the tournament this Saturday.  Absolutely every bit of time or assistance that you can offer will be greatly appreciated in making this event successful.

Jeff and Board Members:  I appreciate all that you guys do in helping to get this pulled together and provide your teammates with direction/guidance.

What you as a club member need to bring:

  • A lawn rake - Friday (see below)
  • Bottle for the wheelbarrow or a "filler" item if you're under 21 (give to Tracy Gola)
  • Raffle ticket stubs, money and any unsold tickets (give to Tracy, as well)
  • Coolers - we need to have a lot of coolers on hand to keep things cold.  Put your name on it somewhere so that we can give it back to you at the end of the day.
  • Booser - can you assign three guys to buy the actual wheelbarrow and assemble it?  A new one, please.  The three guys doing this do not need to bring a bottle...this is in lieu of...
  • Adam - you said that you would bring 10 tables.
Friday - Field Preparation
1.  Evan and I will be out at the fields @ 2:00/2:30PMPM.  Please get there as soon as possible.  We realize that folks work.  The sooner you make it out there, the less time it takes to have it all done. We'd prefer to not have to line the fields using the headlights from our cars.

2.  Please bring a lawn rake...when the City cuts the grass, there are often tuffs of grass all over.  We can't paint the lines over these so run the rakes along the areas to be lined first.  The Steeler's field in particular is very bad...there's no way that we can have people running around on that.

3.  Please pay attention to the directions for lining that Evan will have available.  We want solid lines to be solid, hashed lines to be hashed, all lines to be straight, etc.  Otherwise, we will be sending someone out to get green paint to make the corrections.

4.  Spectator ropes - will need to be set-up on both sides, from dead-ball to dead-ball line.  They need to be measured 15 feet away from the fields in a straight line and the rope secured on either end.  And yes, it is necessary to have them on both sides...there's a whole requirement for it.

5.  Goal posts - I've already asked you to check for all the parts.  They need to be put up securely.

6. Parking Lot - No parking on the grassy area in front of the Steeler's field, so we should use a couple of stakes or something and use caution tape to cord it off.

7.  Get stakes to hang banner on Saturday morning.

8. Parking Lot - Mark off with caution tape two areas that are no-parking so that an ambulance can gain entrance.  One on the left side of the fieldhouse and one on the right.  I will point at where they should be.

9.  Tents - we have two tents in the clubhouse.  The tops can all be assembled Friday night, set on the ground where we want them and just popped up on Saturday morning.  The white tent will stay up by the main field.  The sliver tent will be placed between the two lower fields for a first aid area.

10.  Trash bins will need to have liners placed in them...it's a lot easier for clean-up.  (We will be making all attempts to encourage teams to recycle this weekend and have bins marked accordingly.  We are within a mile of the recycling center and there is no reason that we can't do our part to "Go Green".  We dispose of at least 1200 plastic water bottles, another 500 gatorade bottles, numerous cans, etc...let's do our part.)

Saturday - Set-up
We all hate early mornings but need to do what we need to do.  We are starting early due to the number of teams attending.  You will need to be there at 7:30AM, please.  Teams will be showing up by 8:00AM.

1.  Final field prep - Godek's goal post pads to go on the main field.  LV's pads on the next field and I think we have something else in the clubhouse for the third.  Check goal posts for stability.

2.  Each field will need 14 flags

3. Final set-up of tents.

4.  Set-up of tables.

5.  Moving water and gatorade from clubhouse to tent areas for registration and food.

6.  Assistance filling coolers with beverages, ice.

7.  Set-up of T-shirt and raffle sales.

8.  Hang tournament banner by roadside.

I think that will cover it for that time of the AM.

During the day:
1.  General field clean-up ongoingly.  You see water bottles and what-not on the sidelines, recycle them.

2.  Check in to give a break to anyone working the food, t-shirt, raffle sales.

3.  Pay attention to the field set-ups and make sure that spectator ropes and goal posts are all okay.  Will need to be responsive to any goal-post tipovers, etc.

4.  Clean-up/breakdown of all fields and set-ups at the end of the tournament.

Evening:
1.  Go social.

Sorry if this seems long...it's just that on Saturday, I need to spend a good deal of time checking teams in and dealing with any issues that arise, so it makes it hard to clearly give directions at those times.

I will be at the fields Friday for the afternoon and early evening for any clarification that's needed.  If you have any questions before then, please use my cell 484-767-5905.  I turn off the computer by Friday AM and don't check it again for the rest of the weekend.

I appreciate your attention to this...see you very soon -

Susan
