Certainly makes those Tuesday evening runs a little more interesting. At least the women in the club have nothing to worry about.

LRRC-ers

Get in the spirit this holiday season! Tie jingle bells to your shoes  and run or walk in the Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis with the  LBC / LRRC team!

This year, we are uniting our efforts with the Lancaster Bicycle Club to collectively pull our resources and make a difference. You can race, run, walk, bring a pooch, push a stroller or just send money! It's all  good! Invite friends,  family, neighbors -- the more, the merrier!!

The Jingle Bell Run/Walk is a competitive or super-silly 5K (flat) run or 1 mile walk  that benefits the Arthritis Foundation®. I've been attending the event for several years and have seen the Grinch, a full-size Xmas Tree, fat Santa's, gingerbread people and, of course, throngs of bell-embellished elves jingle the course. It is quite the festive spectacle! For serious or fun times this day. It's all about hanging out and helping the Arthritis Foundation. Face it, we ALL have or know someone with a creak or ache associated with the big A affliction.  Active folks (like us) are more susceptible to developing some form of the disease in our lifetime!

Details: Sunday afternoon, December 13 at Granite Run (Secret Sneaker). The cost is $20.00 to participate with the OPTION of soliciting additional pledges. We are all ready over $1000. Donations are tax deductible! Register online (link below) and you'll receive a long-sleeve t plus a goodie bag filled with good stuff! At the event, there will also be prizes
(We're going for BEST TEAM!), food and giveaways. After there will be provide delicious, homemade Chrismahannakwanfest cookies and real hot cocoa for all LBC/LRRC participants.

There is also talk about Part II at Barney's! Hot Toddies anyone!?

Sign up online, pick up an application, or check the board Tuesday night.

Twenty members have signed on already.  I will Lace up those sneakers and join

lynn and i want to personally thank everyone who participated in this weekend's chrismahannakwanfest held saturday!

we had beautiful weather and record breaking attendance, with 41 runners and workers assembled for our worthy cause.
“overall male winner” was mark buckwalter, and his wife connie was “overall female winner” – the first time a husband
and wife won both honors.  the prestigious “grocery getter award” went to todd poole.  winners are determined by both
running speed and trivia finding ability.

of course, the real winners are the folks who depend on the lancaster county food bank as we raised 170 items of food
on saturday.  this brings our 3 year total to 433 individual items of food!  you should all be proud of your contribution
to making someone’s holiday a little brighter.  congratulations on a job well done and thank you so very much for your
support.

Saturday, I headed up to Lepnun for the Give Thanks For Lebanon 5K/10K. I ran the 10K, which had to be somewhat short. For proof, I offer my time of 44:20. I'd put the course right around 6 miles. Most of the race was on the beautiful rail trail that now extends right into the city of Lebanon.

Also in attendance were Kathi and John Markley. John picked up an award in the 5K.

Thursday, it's our annual Fowl Run at Long's Park, 9 AM.

Sorry for the short notice.

The First Saturday outings for December and January will need to be switched.
That means going to Fair HIll MD Saturday December 5th and Wissahickon Park on
January 2nd.

Please pass this along to others.

In years past we scheduled the Fair Hill date to co-incide with the PHunt 50K
put on by the Delaware Trails Dawgs. The "fat ass" style run had been drawing
well over a hundred runners and parking had been tight. This year they are
expecting well over 300 runners and we feel it is not the right atmosphere for
our outing. I checked with the park about deer hunting and a controlled hunt is
scheduled for the weekend of January 12.

Car pool from the Sheetz Oregon Pike and Rt 30 at 7:30 AM sharp.

FRIDAY NIGHT SOCIAL EVENT FOR THE 52nd ANNUAL RRCA CONVENTION ANNOUNCED
On Friday April 23, 2010, the Annual Lakeland Derby will take place on Lake Mirror with proceeds supporting the The Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine, a local charity that provides medical services to the uninsured residents of Polk County, FL. The event will be the Friday evening social function for the RRCA's 52nd annual convention.

The Lakeland Derby is a "Kentucky Derby style event" where the horses are replaced with "man powered swan boats" and pedaled across Lake Mirror. The swan boat race will feature ten swan paddle boats powered by two jockeys. The jockeys pedal the swan boats similar to that of a bicycle.

According to Ashley Burnetti jockey for "Whirlaway" in 2009's race, "you pedal really hard and you get nowhere."

The event is a fundraiser for the Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine but the event also focuses on bringing the local community together. Last year's event brought in more than 4,000 spectators to beautiful Lake Mirror in downtown Lakeland.

The event will be hosted in downtown Lakeland at Lake Mirror from 5:00 PM to 9:15 PM. Transportation for RRCA attendees will be provided to and from the event.

Dinner and non-alcoholic beverages are included in the cost of the convention meal tickets as well as a chance in the prize drawing. Additional tickets for guests or spouses can be purchased online through the convention's website or at the convention.

Apparently there was confusion or somethingorother, but, to confirm, this week's thursday nite trail run is at 6:30 pm, running from the pretzel hut.

Location: 2224 Furnace Hills Pike Newmanstown, PA 17073 - this maps to just north of where the parking lot, it's actually right along the road, right at the actual pretzel hut.   Furnace Hills Pike is the same as route 501. pretzel hut even has a website - http://pretzelhut501.com/  & so do we, with a calendar - http://lrrclub.org/thusched

we did this same run back in february, in the snow in low temps and here're some pictures - http://picasaweb.google.com/lrrclub/PretzelHutHSTRun#  it'll probably be warmer.

SIGVARIS INTRODUCES THE ATHLETIC RECOVERY SOCK

On October 29, 2009, SIGVARIS introduced the Athletic Recovery sock, an Active Therapy medical compression garment designed to improve athletic recovery and performance. The Athletic Recovery sock helps to flush out the lactic acids built up in the leg muscles during exercise, as well as relieve tired, aching legs and exercise-induced muscle soreness.

SIGVARIS created the Athletic Recovery sock for competitive athletes and weekend warriors as compression garments have become highly visible in all major sports. Whether it's during the actual event, after the event, or even while traveling, athletes are making graduated compression socks part of their everyday attire.
Click here to read the full press release.

SIGVARIS created www.athleticrecoverysock.com to provide consumers with information on the new Athletic Recovery sock, as well as a forum for athletes to discuss their compression therapy experiences and results. The website also includes related medical studies that support the science behind the use of compression therapy for athletic performance and recovery.

Nice run on 80% moderately hilly ( bit more than White Clay) not too rocky mostly single track.  Bout 130  ran, including Dawgs Hunt, Mark Mckinney and Loren Thomas.
Both Mark & Loren close to place in 50-59 age.  I did not, but still felt good in  mid pack and feeling moderately recovered from MMTR 50 last weekend.   Nice too have DAWG cheering squad of Eva and Craig at finish. Winning time was a speedy 31+ min, despite terrain  some slippy mucky stuff( actually not too bad) . However,  no stream crossing.
Saw  Tom Howe from Lancaster  there. He ran well finishing in top 30.  He also  seems to be showin up at almost every Trail race in SE Pa lately.  Check out his trail race calendar site: http://www.easterntrailracing.com/contactus.html
Only lament was that it was too warm to wear my arm hoisery......

Yea I'm fine now. I was throwing up for the previous hour before I stopped and
the EMT's took over. So I wasn't processing fluids or food and getting
increasingly dehydrated. In the ambulance I had a pulse rate of 120 but a BP of
only 60/40 and the first EMT couldn't find any BP at all and he thought I was
having heart problems. I wasn't (as the EKG in the ambulance and another one in
the ER showed) but I did get 3 bags of IV fluids at the hospital. So I had to
stay in the ER until my heart rate came down, which took almost 3 hours. I'm
fine, it just wasn't my day. Thanks for your concern.

Marathon, please be advised that I did not finish the race even though it says I
did. I spent most of Sunday afternoon in the ER at the Harrisburg hospital after
dropping out @ 19 miles. After I got out of the hospital, I walked back to city
island and handed in my timing chip, which is how I assume I got in the results.
Anyway, I did not run an 8 hour marathon, or any other time on Sunday. Sorry for
the confusion. It was not a particularly good day.

For anyone looking at the results on www.runhigh.com, for Sunday's Harrisburg
Marathon, please be advised that I did not finish the race even though it says I
did. I spent most of Sunday afternoon in the ER at the Harrisburg hospital after
