Karen,

Try my knee-high socks. When I run trails in summer, I wear long shorts and
high socks. seems to work for me. Sil

I will be running the Twin Cities Marathon Sept. 29th. I plan on
starting a structured training program in late June, if any body
doing a Fall marathon is interested in group long runs and track work
please e-mail me. I also have several training guides for anything
from a first marathon to running sub 3 hrs. If there is enough
interest I would be willing to organize and help direct a clinic type
three month program for a Fall marathon. If this thing flys we will
hold a pre program meeting sometime in late June to get things
started. We would probably schedule one long group run once a week
for July then start doing some track work as a group in August. This
will be a very flexible program. It's just fun to share the hard
workouts with fellow runners plus the knowledge exchange within the
group should be helpful to all involved.

Evan....Feel free to post this on the website

6/3/02 WEEKEND Congrats to all Red Rose Run-ers. The LRRC member
participant list is lengthy, long and has a few award winners. and
yesterday’s local paper has the entire list – 13-1400 strong, clearly
Lancaster’s largest 5 mile race. Sorry, no weblink to the paper article or
results on Healthguard’s site were found….. Hint hint hint.

God’s Country Marathon. Tom Rineer, Greg Foster & Peter Belanger all headed
north to run the race of races. Congrats to Peter for finishing his first
ever marathon. Website’s not up yet, maybe sometime
http://www.pavisnet.com/marathon.

WEBSITE Thanks to Megan, Leo, Sil, and Chuck for all the website help. I
was about lock someone-forever in a room with nothing but Andy Gibb songs
(and posters!) playing louder and louder, but these four individuals saved
the day. Look for enhanced road & trail sections down the road…

THE WEEK has lots to do-training-run-wise. Tomorrow is the Middle Creek fun
run, Thursday will be a night spent on the Chiques Rock trails, Friday will
be the Gretna Night run and Sunday will be on the County Park’s trails.

WEEKEND RACES (coming) Satuday’s got the Tel Hai 5 mi & 5K in Honeybrook,
Sunday’s got the Double Trouble 15 & 30K in French Creek.

SMITH'S CHALLENGE is June 16 (Father's Day). This a perfect way to spend
the day-run the run, have a picnic, go to the pool, while away the day.
Website's (http://www.geocities.com/lrrclub/index.html) got the application
(look in the upper right hand corner!) sign up before June 10 to get the
lower rate.

Doing a fall marathon? Interested in doing a fall marathon with some
semblance of structure & someone that's certainly been there before?
Interested in having someone be there to ask questions or seek some
guidance? For a bunch of years, Harry Smith has been THE segway to short &
long distance running for lots of people. Harry will be working with
interested (fall) marathon runners. Trust me, this is OPPORTUNITY knocking
on the door. Here’s what he’s got in mind: “I will be running the Twin
Cities Marathon Sept. 29th. I plan on starting a structured training program
in late June, if any body doing a Fall marathon is interested in group long
runs and track work lease e-mail me. I also have several training guides for

Hi Karen,

I have a "potion" made by the same people who make the too late soap.
It has some sort of wax to block the oils out of your skin.
I haven't used it very often, but you're welcome to try it.
I talked to Tom at God's Country. We're going to ride out together
to Mohican on Friday. Only 2 weeks to go

Thanks to everyone for their tips - I'm feeling better from my first batch
of summer poison and will take lots of the advice (no more handi-wipes!) and
yeah, i'd like to try the potion if you've got extra! (it beats knee highs)

Mohican is going to be fun! 8 more days until i leave for pittsburgh and
the pre-race party (-: See you guys out there!

Ken/Bob,
Good thing you mentioned that. I give my kid yogurt every time he has
been on antibiotics and it really helps to keep the diarrhea under control.

On the Lyme disease subject, I have a weird red mark on the inside of my thigh,
got it doing the Buzzard loop last weekend. Doesn't look like a bulls eye, more
just a red spot with a little bite in the middle, but still very much there
today, 6 days later. Any ideas?

Ken/Bob,
Good thing you mentioned that. I give my kid yogurt every time he has
been on antibiotics and it really helps to keep the diarrhea under control.
(Just a friendly comment from your favorite family nurse). PS make sure you
take all your medicine as ordered!

For anybody interested in the marathon training group, we will hold
our initial training run and meeting on Thursday June 20th. Meet at
6:30 pm at Lancaster County Central Park behind the park office. We
will do a loop of the Smith Challenge course or a road loop option
then have a short meeting afterwards to plan our training schedule.
If you can't make this meeting but are still interested in training
with us, let me know along with your goal for the race and some
personal runnig history. If you're going to do a marathon this fall,
come on out and join us. We will be able to acomodate eveyone form
the first timer to the sub 3hr runner. As Andy would say "It'll
be..........fun"

and over the gigantic hill north of town, Smith's Cheesesteaks can be

WEEKEND RACES (coming) Satuday’s got the Tel Hai 5 mi & 5K in Honeybrook.
Head to Honeybrook and experience the fun.

Tonite - Mt. Gretna Nite Run see gretna by nite, you won't believe what
goes on in the woods.

Ran the great roads of Columbia last eve, right after the storm. Look no
further for real hill workouts than any road going north of the greater
Columbia metropolitan area. Roads like River, Kinderhook , Chickies Hill &
Malleable Rds all present excellent big hill training opportunities. And oh
BTW, Smith's now has a deck.

FUN RUNS Fun Runs at People's Houses-next Tuesday. Please realize that
the 'host' puts in a whole lotta time and effort in order to put these
things together. Please be courteous. Next Tuesday's run will be held at
the home of Lynn Morrow, in Millersville. Run the old VFW course + 2 miles.
See the tank, see the creek (don't miss the neat house next to the bridge
& creek), run the 2 hills, marvel at the huge houses and guess how many
bathrooms they've got. Check out the little pond with the waterfall and
the gigantic tree. say hi & thanks to Lynn.

Harry,
Do you have any type of training plan for someone
as injury prone as me? I've got that feeling that
once I start picking up the mileage, I'll start
feeling the pain.

the LRRC Masters Posse of Sil Simpson, Harry Smith, Andy Charles and Will

runners - Tom Rineer & Karen Shiley & 2 Leb runners - Dan Petley & Jim
Cramer head to Ohio to run the Mohican 100. Locally, the Relay for Life
will be in Millersville. Though not exactly a race, it is for a good cause.

TUESDAY - Fun Run. Home of Lynn Morrow, Millersville 6:30 PM. Run the old
VFW course, see the then Skinny Minny now Point of View, figure out Funks
and ask how fast homes sell in the boro. All this and more tomorrow.

THURSDAY 7:30 PM General Meeting/Presentation. What: Reflexologist Lisa
Leber & Certified Massage Therapist Heather Werner-Forrey will be talk about
reflexes, massages and running and blending the 3 together in a tangled web
of mystical intrigue. Where: home of Bob Bergman - 412 Hensley St. Lititz
PA. How to get there: From south of Lititz, 501 North, West on 2nd Street,
Left on Marion, Left on Hensley Street #412. It is on right side of last
duplex on right on (Hensley which is a dead end street).FRI - SAT Relay for
Life Millersville U. Track 6 PM Start
SUNDAY Park

NEXT TUESDAY (Evan/Your Author is out of town Thurs - Mon) Southern End Fun
Run 382 River Road Pequea. 6:30 PM. Come to the beautiful rolling river
hills of southwestern Lancaster County and run the roads or follow Bill
Smith on the trails. Questions? please contact esandt@... or
