Dan Petley's running Boston. He's in the first heat (10 a.m.?). Look
him up during the race. Also for the old-timers, Neil Weygandt, who
was running ultras before anybody except Park Barner, is running his
umpteenth Boston. Harry will remember him from our days travelling
with Ron Bomberger.

Boston Marathon LIVE on Television
Local (WBZ-TV), National (Versus), and International Television
Partners Return to Carry the Boston Marathon from wire-to-wire

Posted Wednesday, 11 April, 2007

Boston, Mass. – The Boston Marathon, scheduled to begin two hours
earlier than past years, will reach local, national and international
viewers with complete, live coverage.

WBZ-TV (CBS affiliate, Channel 4) will provide its exclusive live,
local broadcast from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET. WBZ-TV, a partner of
the Boston Athletic Association for 27 years, is the only Boston
television station providing live wire-to-wire coverage of the 2007
Boston Marathon.

For the third year, Versus (formerly known as Outdoor Life Network)
will provide complete, live, national coverage from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30
p.m. ET. A same-day, encore presentation of the Versus telecast will
air from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET.

Eurosport, a Boston Marathon partner, will carry the race in Europe in
130 million homes. Additional B.A.A. partners include SporTV in
Brazil, SuperSport throughout Africa, Sky Mexico, i-cable in Hong
Kong, Latvian TV, and worldwide highlights on SNTV and Reuters.
American Forces Radio and Television will bring the race to U.S.
troops overseas, covering 190 countries.

WBZ am 1030 once again will provide live local radio coverage.

The Boston Athletic Association, the organizer of the Boston Marathon,
will provide text-based web coverage with a leader board and real-time
updates on the official Boston Marathon web site:
www.bostonmarathon.org.

The push rim wheelchair division of the Boston Marathon begins at 9:25
a.m. ET; the Elite Women start at 9:35 a.m. ET; and the Elite Men with
the first wave of official entrants begin at 10:00 a.m. ET. More than
23,800 participants are entered. This year's race marks the first time
that the world's most prestigious road race has not begun at Noon ET.

Established in 1887, the Boston Athletic Association is a non-profit
organization with a mission of managing athletic events and promoting
a healthy lifestyle through sports, especially running. The B.A.A.'s
Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon, and the
organization manages other local events and supports comprehensive
charity, youth, and year-round running programs. Since 1986, the
principal sponsor of the Boston Marathon has been John Hancock
Financial Services. In 2006, the Boston Marathon launched – along with
the Flora London Marathon also in April – the World Marathon Majors
Series. Other events in the series are the real,-Berlin-Marathon, The

My house is open for Marathon Monday.
We can leave here for a warm-up run, say 8:00, 8:30, 9:00, 9:30.
Get back in time for the start, although I'll TiVo the whole thing so we can catch it from the beginning.
Also, computer link to our favorite runners.
If any one has a better idea let me know, 201-3173, otherwise I expect a good turnout like last year.
Call if you need directions.

See you Monday,

The next big concern would be Marathon Monday. Barlow says the latest computer
forecast models suggest there will be very heavy rains, along with strong,
damaging winds, urban and coastal flooding and the possibility of heavy wet snow
inland.

The Boston Marathon has never been postponed because of weather.

The Boston Athletic Association <http://www.bostonmarathon.org/> , which
organizes the marathon, issued the following statement Wednesday:

"As the Boston Athletic Association continues to make preparations for Monday's
Boston Marathon, we are monitoring the upcoming weather conditions forecast for
this area. Based on the National Weather Service's most recent report and in
cooperation with the Executive Office of Public Safety (Commonwealth of
Massachusetts) and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, together with
the eight cities and towns along the 26.2-mile marathon route, we are planning
for likely heavy rain and windy conditions on race day. However, all race day
plans remain the same. The Boston Athletic Association advises participants in
Monday's race to plan accordingly for their run, bringing with them gear and
apparel to suit the conditions."

Another race. a 10 k at Hershey Park Stadium. The old-timers will
remember the Chocolate Chase 10 k from the '80s. This is pretty much
the same course. Hilly .

Great pictures Harry. You really caught the flavor of the day. The
views of the Gap were stunning and the stream and waterfalls were
remarkably picturesque. Glad I didn't sleep in for this one! And yes
we did sample some good beer as well.

For anyone who is going to the Mount Penn Mudfest tomorrow in Reading,
there is a group of LRRCers who will be meeting at Oregon Pike Sheetz
tomorrow morning and carpooling/caravaning to the race. We will park
in the lot adjacent to Sheetz and the Eden Resort Inn (closest lot to
Oregon Pike). Plan on meeting there at about 7:45, and we will
be "wheels up" at 8:00 or very shortly thereafter. Sounds kinda early
to leave for a 10:00 race in Reading; but there are a host of things to
do before the race, like find good parking, pick up your race packet
and take it to the car, sign up for race raffles before the run (e.g.,
the raw egg carry, etc.), and also to marvel at the wondrous musical
talent of the oldest musical duo in Central PA, "Sugar and Spice".
There is sure to be plenty of Ron Horn style goofiness to keep us
occupied if we are a bit early for this one.

This race will be a hoot. If you are not already signed up, don't show
up tomorrow; the 800 entry limit is filled. For those not meeting at
Sheetz, we will try to meet "the group" at the main pavilion at about
9:15 AM.

Ok I'm a idiot. I was running in a 5 km XC event at Lebanon Valley
College on Sunday afternoon. It was raining and I can't see well in
the rain. The course was tricky, some roads, a lot of grass, some
concrete sidewalks, and the best part was you ran over LVC's really
cool suspension bridge over route 934 (Lebanon County's only
suspension bridge by the way). The east side of the bridge has a nice
ramp, but the west side has steps. So you had to run down, and later,
up three flights of steps in this race. That's ok, I like stuff like
that. On the west side of the bridge, the race course went past the
LVC baseball stadium, and then out into a farm lane behind it. There
was a baseball game in progress (in the rain), with a surprisingly
large crowd watching (under roof). So I do the farm loop, head back
towards the baseball stadium, and thru my rain-smeared glasses, see
the steps ahead. No runners are in sight ahead of me. So I hit the
steps hard, two at a time, and at the top I find myself in the top
row of the stands at the game. Not on the bridge where I belong,
which is another hundred yards past the stadium. So, with people
looking at me, I apologize, back off down the stairs, and go on to
the proper stairs to the bridge. Running one set of stairs at 2 1/2
miles into a 5 km is bad enough, so I ran two sets of stairs.
Surprisingly I did not loose any positions.
